We had the good fortune of connecting with LeKeya Weir, MSN, RN and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LeKeya, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I worked in “corporate nursing” for 13 years, 10 years at the bedside pulling long 12 hour shifts and then 3 years in leadership after attaining my Masters degree in Nursing Leadership and Development. I wasn’t a huge fan of my schedule after having kids and transitioning into leadership. While I absolutely loved what I did I disliked that someone else was always in control of my time. When to get to work, when to leave, when I could take time off, how much time off I could have. I was working in nursing leadership when COVID hit and between pulling 12 hour bedside shifts and still having to keep up with my administrative tasks I was exhausted. By the time I got home I had nothing left for my husband and kids. Climbing that corporate ladder and having those fancy job titles didn’t seem as attractive to me anymore. My thought process was if I can grind this hard to ensure that my hospital and my employees are successful then certainly I can grind even harder in a business that is all mine. I can still use this nursing degree and put the same effort, time, and energy into curating a business of my very own that I love and enjoy doing day in and day out. Something that would allow me to be my own boss, determine my own schedule, and make executive decisions about how I operate and reach the epitome of success. I ultimately wanted to redefine what success looked like for me.

The studio specializes in neurotoxins, dermal fillers, platelet rich plasma facials, under eye rejuvenation, hair restoration, chemical peels, and medical grade skincare products. Starting an organic business is not for the faint hearted. It takes grit, determination, and perseverance even in the face of adversity. Challenges are abound but surrounding yourself with a village of people to uplift, encourage, and pray for you is crucial. I’ve had to learn to give myself grace and be patient. I put a lot of pressure on myself to make this business successful but success does not happen overnight. Setting goals, establishing deadlines, and putting one foot in front of the other daily is how I continue to move forward. Vain Revolution’s ultimate goal is make everyone fall in love with self all over again. I pride myself on offering services that do just that. I am most proud of the fact that we have been able to restore the confidence of so many women through our work and in turn empower them to be their best self. We only offer the highest quality products and work with each client to develop a treatment plan to suit their individual needs and wants. Aging is a fact of life, looking your age is not. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were in town for a week, we would start each day with a workout and then hit the city. For breakfast, we would eat at The Breakfast Klub or Toasted Yolk. For lunch/dinner we would dine at Kiss, Juliet, Bungalow, Thirteen, or Steak 48 followed by drinks at Z on 23 or Axelrad. We could see a Rockets game and then do some shopping at The Galleria after we visit the Museum of Fine Arts. For nightlife we would probably hang out at The Spot Eado, Bar 5015, or Clutch Bar. Live music is always good at The Rhythm Room too. During the summer, we would get cabana service by the pool at The Marriott Marquis in downtown Houston. Sundays would find us at New Faith Church.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband. He believed in me from the very beginning even when I doubted myself, the business concept, and how we would make all of this work. He pushed me do my research so that we could make an educated, informed decision about the business model. Once I was firm in what I wanted to do, he supported me through every aspect of business development from the initial trainings and brand development to the grand opening. I started my company only working part time. I was still operating in my full time job while working after hours and weekends in my business. After about 6 months my husband made the suggestion that I leave my full time job and focus on my business which is really where my passion was. I was hesitant to leave my full time job though. It was the stability that it offered in a steady paycheck, healthcare benefits for my family, and 403b that made me hesitant to leave. I knew I would have to leave eventually to make my business everything I wanted it to be but the fear of failure was a real factor in making that decision. He, however, never wavered in his support, never showed any sign of doubt or disbelief, never seemed to worry about how it would all come together. By the grace of God and my husband’s love and support it all come together beautifully. Almost two years after inception, my business is strong, my marriage is even stronger, and our lifestyle never changed.
