We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Morton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always been an entrepreneur. After i sold my last bookkeeping firm and worked out my contract there was no doubt i wanted to create another company where i could help other small businesses grow and be successful
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Being your own boss is definitely not easy. Small business owners sacrifice a great deal to get up and going, being successful and having a great end to the journey.
I am most proud – when I had my last accounting firm I held it for 5 years. Over 20 women worked for me over that period of time and to this day 6 continue to run their own successful firms.
How did you get to where you are today business-wise.
Persistence and dedication. Business ownership is not for the faint hearten but you also have to find a balance that works for your family / partner.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
Don’t undervalue yourself, know your time is worth money as it is the one thing you can not get or buy back. You are under no obligation to be cheap – you are however under every obligation to honor quality work, ethics and your mission statement.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
We are one of a less than 5 firms in town that specialize in Real Estate accounting and know the industry software.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First and foremost – San Antonio everyone should experience the Alamo and the movie I would spend 2 days here
Williams tower and the Houston club downtown would be day 3.
The view and photo opportunity is amazing Galveston for an overnight trip.
Must go to Guidos for dinner NASA and Kehma for a day trip.
Our history is incredible. Lastly, we would do a day trip to Brenham / Lavender farms and a little shopping.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jared Polak / Entree Results. Jared has been my business coach since 2012. He holds me accountable in all areas of my business and personal life. Every business owner should have a coach or at the very least an accountability partner.
