We had the good fortune of connecting with Logan Fairchild and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Logan, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from a small town in the the panhandle of Texas, called Vega. I grew up farming, I am the youngest of four, and basically have been working since I could walk. My parents instilled in all four of us a very strong work ethic. Most kids growing up, got to sleep in on the weekends and watch cartoons, we were up by 9am and working on the farm. Whether it was building fences, driving tractor, or working cattle. All of my siblings and myself have worked extremely hard for our places in life. It’s something I will continue to do until I reach my end goal, which is to open my own barbershop one day.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a cosmetologist. I work in the men’s grooming field and am also an aspiring barber and massage therapist. Im currently most excited about getting my barbers license and hopefully starting massage therapy school in the fall. I got where I am today, by being persistent. I did women’s hair for 3 years and decided that wasn’t for me. So I decided I wanted to do men’s hair, I had no idea how to do men’s hair but that’s what I wanted. I found a barbershop in a truck stop, I took a leap of faith and applied. I paid $30 a day for booth rent and taught myself how to cut men’s hair out there. I gave away a lot of free haircuts but once I felt familiar enough with cutting men’s hair, I started applying at other barbershops/men’s salons. It’s definitely not been easy. I feel like I learn something new every single day, even after almost 10 years in the industry. Also, being a woman in a male dominated profession can be tough. I feel like I have to work twice as hard for half the respect. It can be disheartening, but it’s what I love to do and I’ll never give up. I just want the world to know that women deserve a spot in the barbering world and we will continue to break glass ceilings until they are removed.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Best spots in the city? There’s so many! If my best friend came to town, we would definitely eat at Dak & Bop, the original Ninfa’s on Navigation, Bravery Chef Hall, Hay Merchant, and Common Bond. We would grab drinks at Johnny Gold Brick, Lei Low, Two Headed Dog, and Cobble & Spoke. I would also take her to the Bed and Breakfast that my boyfriend is the excutice chef at, The Historic Hill House and Farm. And of course, we would check out any of the amazing breweries in the city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is dedicated to my boyfriend, Chase Reid. He has always supported me and encouraged me to follow my dreams. He continues to push me everyday and makes me want to be better than I was the day before. He is a very talented chef and just seeing him be so passionate about what he does, drives me to be more passionate as well.
