We had the good fortune of connecting with Lymaris Bernal and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lymaris, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I have learn in life that being too confortable where you are only means it’s time to get up and go for more. There’s no growing without taking risks!
What should our readers know about your business?
There’s nothing more magical than seeing that smile and excitement when clients finally see their hair in the mirror. That final look. Those before and after reactions. I grew up being the kind of girl that always wanted to make others happy, I found that it would also make me happy. I have always been a very creative and detailed oriented person, and when I combined this with doing hair, magic just happened! It’s been a process. I’ve learned in life that everything takes time, specially if you are searching for perfection. As a person that struggles with anxiety some times, I learned to repeat in my mind the following when trying something new: “Don’t worry, soon you’ll be looking back and thinking, really? I was struggling with that?”. It’s all about practice, consistency and time. The secret is in never giving up. After 12 years in the beauty industry I keep finding ways to improve my techniques, to grow as a person, as a hair stylist and entrepreneur. I think it’s very important to invest in my self to provide excellence to others. I’m constantly reading books, and listening to educational podcasts, searching up new techniques and taking continue education classes. I’m definitely not done, I’m going for much more!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston has so many Amazing things to do. One of the first things I like to do when friends come over to visit is to drive around downtown and show them the Murals. There is so much stunning art to see and take pictures! Then stop at Axelrad Beer Garden and relax on one of their hammocks while listening to great live music. Following with Gloria’s Latin Cuisine for delicious Salvadoran food, and Salsa live music and dancing at night!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To my amazing husband for always trusting on all my crazy ideas and pushing me to keep going forward.
