We had the good fortune of connecting with Lynelle Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lynelle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am the owner of Top Tier Hires and The Shades of Colors. Both very different businesses but very important to me. When I created my make up brand The Shades of Colors I wanted to make every shade of skin feel something they don’t normally feel on the daily basics. Whenever you applied my makeup I wanted you to look and feel your best. We have even been reposted by Mama Tina for our Date Night color. You know she loves Red! Now switching gears , Top Tier Hires was created for my community and other community’s. Right now there are 5 million Americans quit jobs because of low wages. My husband and I created a job board website that’s still in production. What’s different about our job board website compared to others is that we have installed that minimum wage starts at $10.00. The only reason for that is it’s so many different states that require different wages but we are hoping to expand to a bigger platform those details I can’t share.
What should our readers know about your business?
When I started my businesses I wanted to start one that was a passion for me not just an extra income. For my makeup brand the eyeshadow palettes and have my face on it! Yes my real face in a beautiful mix of the eyeshadow colors shown on the cover. I wanted to show what it could and would look like on my customers. Now for my job board website the difference is some other job board website that I cannot name. Some start wages as low as $5.00. Can you believe somewhere , someone in the world is receiving that little? The difference with our Job Board site is minimum is $10.00. We know this brand can be amazing we just have trouble with funding. It is extremely hard to find a company / person / bank that will help a person of color. I hate to say that but it’s true for my husband and I. One of the things we are trying to do is raise money so we would be able to make our businesses thrive the way I know they can. The lesson I have learned is one that my husband told me actually. That is everything does not happen overnight, Yes you see others progress and it may seem like it happened overnight but hard work takes time. I will give it to god and everything will happen on his time. The thing I want anybody to take from this piece about our brand is that anybody can open a business but it takes time and real work to make that happen. Also open something from your heart because it’s easier to continue.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So I live in Dallas but originally from New Orleans. So if my best friend was coming to New Orleans we are going to all the hole I. The wall places. Cajuns , The blue store , Manchus and can’t forget New Orleans Originals. I would take them on beautiful parts of my city. A fun person to me is one that doesn’t complain all the time. I love to have fun and chill as well.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This answer has a lot of humans included lol. Firstly my husband. The man who has seen me cry , complain about things not going right. He always brings me back and remind me that everything will happen when it’s suppose to happen.
Secondly My children. Whenever I hear “Great Job Mom” you would have thought I’ve won an Emmy!
Third My mother. Ever had someone ground you and support you at the same time. Yes my mother. Still and have always been one of my biggest cheerleaders.
I LOVE YOU ALL!
