We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Pak and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matthew, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of The Burger Joint is consistency in our product and service and continually progressing and building a team that understands our companies expectations and importance of this consistency.
What should our readers know about your business?
My background as a cook, then chef has led me to my career today. Over time my passion and love for food grew and grew. Not only the food itself but how it made people happy. When I hear our customers saying “That was the best burger I have ever had” it makes all my hard work worth it to me. I am most proud of the fact that we have created a restaurant concept that can make people happy through food and great customer service. I am very proud of the team that we have created and continue to develop. I appreciate my management team and all the staff that puts in the effort to help our brand be successful. “It definitely wasn’t easy to get to this point and I know it will never be “easy.” I have accepted that. I understand that it takes hard work and effort to succeed in everything you do. Other than the daily operational struggles of the restaurant business, one of my biggest challenges is balancing my career with my family and personal life. Every day, I wake up and go to sleep with the Burger Joint on my mind. I have realized that what I do in my career isn’t and never will be just a job to me. Instead of struggling to keep things completely separate, I have made my business a part of my family’s life, as they are The Burger Joint’s biggest fans! I do cherish the time with my family Away from the restaurant even more knowing that they support me and are understanding through the chaotic times, even though it may be only 1 day a week at times. The support of my family is the biggest driving force in the success that I have enjoyed and always will be. What I want the world to know about The Burger Joint is that we, as a company, strive for excellence forever and in all ways. We focus on consistency in our food and customer service. We try to exceed expectations that our customers have of a counter service establishment. Our staff is trained to go beyond expectations , from clearing trays so the customer doesn’t have to do it themself to managers always on duty checking on guests to make sure they are happy. We are focused on welcoming EVERYONE as our customer, not just a certain demographic. We also love customer feedback and strive to satisfy every customer. We welcome all feedback and we do our best to address all comments, good and bad. ”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to these restaurants to show them how diverse Houston’s food scene is: Les Ba’get, Street Food Thai Market, Aladin, Crawfish and noodles and of Course The Burger Joint. We would go to Spotlight and end up at Glitter Karaoke until early morning hours at least one night. I would also run and bike some of the trails which run throughout the city parks.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I believe a major part of The Burger Joint’s success is due to the great minds of the partners involved, MatthewPak(me), Shawn B and Andrew J. We continue to work well together as we grow and progress. We all have the same vision but yet all think differently in all aspects of our business. As we all know, the restaurant business takes a lot of time and effort and at times is very stressful. I want to thank my wife Monica Pak for always sticking by my side through the good and rewarding times but most importantly through the tough and stressful times. On a daily basis, she and my family are what keeps me pushing through and why I work so hard at what I do.
