Meet Megan Morris | Chandelier

We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well , my business started as a way for me to express my creativity. At the time I was a full time owner of a brick and mortar bakery and also a makeup artist. However, my bakery took up all of my time and I was unable to perform makeup services which was my creative outlet. I knew I was loved candles and so did my clients, so I thought it would be a good idea to learn how to make them for myself, clients, family and friends. I thought it would be a simple task but I was shocked to learn that it took a lot of trial and error to produce a quality product. Every night I would research different formulations for wax, wicks, fragrance oil until I found the formula that worked for me. That took about 1.5 years!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have a full time career in the medical field. It has been extremely challenging especially the last couple years with the pandemic mentally and physically. I knew that I could always turn to my company to use it as an outlet to be creative and relieve stress. However, as my company begins to gain more traffic, it became more challenging juggling work/life balance. I work from 8pm-8am and then work on my company from 8am -2pm and then get a little rest most days. It’s hard. I’m exhausted most days. But I have recently learned that no matter how hard I work, there will always be more work to be done. I have recently implemented a self care day once per week for me to do absolutely NOTHING. This has been the most rewarding experience ever because I gave myself grace to know that I’m doing a great job and the work can wait. I need to take care of me. And this is the basis of Elevated Scentz. We promote relaxation and self care with southern inspired home perfumes. Scent is the strongest of our 5 senses that is linked to memory. Scent can immediately transport you to a time or place that triggers a memory. We want you to enjoy your self care while relaxing to our amazing Scentz.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I’m definitely a foodie! I’m originally from Louisiana and I know all about good food. I’m totally into food trucks right now so we’d definitely go to Houston Grub Park and Rosehill Beer Garden for food, grab some drinks at Holeman (they have the best French 75), catch a movie at the Rooftop Cinema and definitely get mani/pedis at Gloss Bar Katy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to shout-out my family! When I first started this journey I didn’t tell anyone what I was doing. I just casually said “hey guys I’m making candles and I want you to try them out.” THEY are the ones who told me I had an incredible product and I should be selling these. My beautiful sister (hey Teisha!) invited me to an event her friend was hosting to be a vendor. I sold out. I was shocked! And that was the beginning of Elevated Scentz.
