We had the good fortune of connecting with Germyah Heart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Germyah, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When creating WetSwim, I wanted something different. I feel like a lot of major companies do not have swim suits that fit my style, let alone my shape. I am a thicker girl, I do not want a swim suit super tight. In addition, the swim suits I used to see were too basic and boring. I am into bright colors, patterns and cuts. With that in mind, I decided I wanted to create my own swim suit collection. A company that serves all genders, shapes, and sizes. I sat down in my cousin Zitoria’s kitchen around May 2020 and told her I was going to start a swim suit collection. She was so supportive and told me to go for it! I sat down, created a business plan and got busy. I purchased my domain and began working on my website day by day. I was extremely excited to get started. I have a journal filled with ideas and designs that I wanted for my brand. Once I came up with everything, I set the launch date for August 2020.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The way that I carry myself and conduct business is something that sets me apart from others. My drive, my ambition and dedication is impeccable. I am proud of the brand and name that I have created for myself. My work speaks for itself. It was a journey to get here. I knew what I wanted, I just needed to lace my shoes up. Nothing in life is easy. I’ve had to work for everything I have. Nothing was ever given to me. I pray a lot. When things are good and when they are bad. Prayer and consistency is how I overcome any challenges or obstacles in my life. I never look at anything as a loss, instead I try to find a lesson in the situation. How can I improve? How can I avoid making this mistake in the future? I am always looking for ways to grow and develop. I am always looking for ways to elevate. I’m a private person, I enjoy keeping things to myself and amongst my circle because every one isn’t always rooting for you. But those who do have the privilege to know me and get an inside look to what I am doing know that I am a go-getter, a mega mind and I am about my business. Nothing more, nothing less.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
See, I have different best friends from different stages of my life. Mani and Sam are my high school bestfriends. Those are my friends that are very chill and it doesn’t take much for us to have fun. If they were visiting the area, I am taking them to karaoke night. It’s only right! One thing about Mani, is she is going to perform. While Sam and I die of laughter. Then you have Payton and Emerald. My two Capricorn besties. We’re all pretty much the same person. It’s kind of scary. We are all buried into work (one of our many jobs), under a rock, ignoring the world, doing a million things at once. So a day with them, we are going to the spa. A day of relaxation. Lastly, Tamira! Tamira is my country bestfriend. My poor baby is so country! I’m talking bull fighting, horseback riding, Rodeo country lol. But I love her. She’s a great friend. She always shows up no matter what! So a day with her, we are going to the State fair to try all the food and see the animals.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have a plethora of support from my family and friends. Special thanks to my parents, siblings, friends and family. My support system is everything. It is important to have a healthy support system when achieving greatness because there will be a mixture of good and bad days and having that extra support goes a long way. I’m forever grateful for my support system.
