We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Jenise Greggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa Jenise, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
How do I know when to give up or keep going? First let me say that I am coming for everything God promised me, unapologetically period! Giving up isn’t an option for me. When God places something on your heart, it means He has already provided the necessary resources. It won’t necessarily be easy, but it means He is with you every step of the way, even when it’s hard. When something isn’t working, sometimes you need to step back and break the larger picture down. Learn the art of the pivot.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a designer, stylist, and costume designer, I believe what sets me apart is the creative perspective I bring to every project. Everything has a story, and it’s my responsibility to convey that story through design, whether it’s through the color, style, or cut of the garment.
Honestly, I am not fully where I want to be in business; there is so much more I would like to achieve. I have made some mistakes along the way by trying to rush the process, but I have made sure to learn from them. I have learned to trust myself fully and what has been placed inside of me. I have learned that patience is a major key to the success of any brand.
I would like the world to know that my brand represents the woman who is sophisticated and elegant, yet unique and stands out from the crowd. Every garment has a story and is crafted from the heart.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
After picking her up, we’d spend the rest of the day exploring my favorite places on the southside. we’d start with something cold to drink to beat the Houston heat, and head for a refreshing daiquiri from Vibe Life Daiquiri to Geaux.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give more than a little credit, recognition, and shoutout first to my dad and my mother, who recently passed away. She was more than my number one supporter emotionally; she also helped me when I first started designing by financially backing my company. Next, I would like to thank my village for their years of support mentally, physically, and financially. They never asked for anything free, lol. They have loved me, flaws and all. They are honest even when I don’t want to hear it. No matter where they are in the world, they love me. My prayer is that I can continue to make her proud.
