We had the good fortune of connecting with Meola Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meola, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think taking risks is one of the trickiest decision that we can do as a human being. As an artist, I believe whenever I take risks to do what I think is right lead me to many opportunities. I feel like a sort of relieve by doing the first step. It is very hard but worth it. In yet, sometimes we can be wrong by being too risky.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Art is very personal and that’s why my single “Set me free” is so personal. When I first wrote set me free, I was at my job and asking God please give me something to write. Then I started mumbling and singing. By creating as much as I can and taking risk is what gets me where I’m today. You don’t become a real artist without being true to yourself. It’s not easy at all because as an independent artist you are responsible for your own materials. And think about it on a financial level for a second. You have to willing to sacrifice to make it. I want the world to know that my story can inspire them. Don’t be afraid to try what they want to achieve in life. Take chances.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As I live in New York City now, I will take them to a Haitian’s restaurant definitely so that I can experience the taste the Caribbean culture. La Baguette is a bakery store located on Nostrand avenue which always reminds me of Haiti. That’s where I will take my friend so I can teach him about the culture. Also, Bebe Fritay is another option of Haitian’s restaurant in Nostrand as well because they sell Haitian’s food there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t say one person. In term of giving credit  and recognition in an artistic level, Michael Jackson gets a big prize entirely in my life especially when I was a child. He gave me the freedom to dance and sing. Stromae who I admire a lot, helps me find my joy, it’s doesn’t always have  to be hitting notes after notes. Just be cool. Indila helps me to write stories then put them into music especially with her album, “Mini World”. God also for giving me life and my mother for taking care of me as well as my father. Overall, thank you to myself for not giving up.
