We had the good fortune of connecting with Meredith Jurica and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meredith, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I developed an item that I needed strictly for personal use. I did not know at the time that it would develop into a business. The organic nature of it’s development caught even me by surprise!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is called Makeup Junkie Bags. It all started with a flat packing/leak resistant cosmetic bag. We now manufacture many accessories. I have a Design Patent on the original bag. I started as a one woman show. When people began ordering the bags at a faster rate than I could make them, I used my profits to hire an employee and purchase more equipment. Our growth happened rapidly. We were featured on ABC’s Shark Tank. There were some struggles and learning curves to get through. I learned quickly that it is ok to fail and that disappointment is a staple piece in the wardrobe of an entreprenuer. You troubleshoot and keep moving forward. I want the world to know that my brand is built on integrity, love of customers, and quality products. We are successful because of our attention to customer service and quality.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Here in Houston there is so much to do! I would love to take my friend to a sporting event as we have major sports venues here. A day shopping at Market Street in The Woodlands followed by dinner at Morton’s. It is one of my favorite places eat. Drinks and good music can always be found at Pacific Yard House conroe. My friends and I gather there often.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this to my family and friends. Without them believing in me and supporting me every step of the way, I would not be where I am today.
