We had the good fortune of connecting with Minyette Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Minyette, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well I’ve always had a entrepreneur mindset. My career background has been management for the past 8 years. I’ve thought like a “boss” for quite some time. When I thought about starting my own business I knew that it would be something easy for me to do. My family owned a grocery store when I was a little girl and I remember helping at times. I saw my family build the business from scratch. I realized early in the process of starting my own business that there will be some challenging and I’m prepared for that. Success is not easy to achieve but it’s worth it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I currently work for Goodwill Houston in the Human Resources department. I been with Goodwill for 5 years and I love it. Goodwill is such a great organization and it allows me to be involved in the community. I had the opportunity to work in several differant areas of the company and that has really built my knowledge in the organization. In 2018 I received the Friends of Goodwill Commitment Award. Before working for Goodwill I was a branch manager for an international bank. One challenge I faced was transitioning from bank management to retail management. It was very difficult to learn retail operations because of my prior career background. I had years of experience in a management role but I never worked in retail. It’s safe to say that I adjusted very quick and learned my new job very well. One thing I would want people to know is that I’m a very hard worker. I take pride in my career and my business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend was in Houston for a weekend I will definitely show her a good time because Houston is the perfect city. One of the first places would be Phil and Derek. I love the vibe there and the food is amazing! We would have breakfast at Frank’s during her time here. I love Frank’s because the breakfast is so good! Our next stop would be Houston Zoo. The zoo is one of the top attractions in the city. Carraba’s would definitely be on the list to visit. The Italian food there is awesome and I know she would enjoy it. House of Blues would be another place to visit. I would then top it off with a day a Miller Outdoor Theatre and catch on good show while relaxing on the hill. This theatre is located at the historical Hermann Park.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom has been a great mentor to me. She’s a very strong woman and she has been a great example in my life. Also I have an amazing circle of friend. They support me and encourage me daily. There are times that I struggled with being new to Houston and not having any family around me. Patricia De Leon gave me my first opportunity at the bank. Without having any experience in banking, she took a chance on me. She mentored me and coached me throughout my training. She was more like family to me. I was new to Houston and she took me under her wings. In this journey called life, you need good people around you to motivate you to be your very best. I recently had the opportunity to be a co-author in an anthology. There was 24 women that came together to share a time in their life that was challenging. I was so honored to be a part of a great book that is currently an Amazon best seller. The book is titled “Dear Young Woman Volume 2, Readjust Your Crown.”
