We had the good fortune of connecting with Tershara Matthews and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tershara, what inspires you?
I am inspired by others being successful. I love to see others win and find their purpose and passion. It empowers me to know that it can happen for me as well. It gives me hope for what is yet to come in life. It may seem funny, but other people’s success frees me to think bigger and challenge myself more.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is a wedding and lifestyle publication called Trends Wedding and Lifestyle Magazine. I have been in the wedding planning business for over 16 years. As I was working with couples, I noticed that themes, colors, or ideas were not in the main stream wedding publication, hence the name Trends. I also noticed that there were not many emerging or upcoming designers featured in those publications. At Trends, we go out of our way looking for new and upcoming designers or designers that need more exposure. Most emerging designers have a little or no marketing budget. Therefore, it is very difficult for them to get exposure in the main stream magazines. The spring and fall fashion shows and showings are a good avenue to find emerging designers. The shows are a way to build relationships. The bigger brands have a lot staff and often times the designers are not present. However with the emerging designers, they are always there and you can actually hear about their inspiration for the collections. You can actually see the passion in their eyes about each dress that they designed. That passion transfers to you and you want to know more about them and their work.
I want everyone to know that we a grassroots magazine working to help artists exhibit their life passions. We want to connect, inspire, and inform couples planning their special day.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love casual dining. So, for quick nice lunches, we would go to Hop Doddy, Beck’s Prime, and Turkey Leg Hut. Of course, there is always shopping. We would hit all of the luxury boutiques and end the day with an amazing massage. We would finish our night with a more formal meal like Mastro’s Steakhouse or Morton’s The Steakhouse.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents deserve credit and recognition for my story. They have always provided me support with all of my life endeavors. My husband and son also deserve recognition for encouraging and supporting me as well. If I ever doubt myself, they always center me and help me to look at all that I have accomplished.
