Meet Ms Pillow | Founder of PillowsTopCleaningService

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ms Pillow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ms, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The most important decision I have ever made was giving Jesus Christ my YES! Initially I started my business from a place of need. My sons father at the time and I had a very disheartening relationship that ended and I had no idea how I was going to provide for my child and myself as my salary from my 9-5 was not enough in no shape or form. Giving Jesus my yes has healed me so much from my past and has led to giving me extreme vision on the success and navigation of my business. The more I have remained obedient to my yes in Him, the further He has taken what I thought was just a “financial need fixer” to be a generational cycle breaker. God has continued to show me that he’s doing something new, ears haven’t heard and eyes haven’t seen which will forever contribute to the success of PillowsTopCleaningService.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most proud of the journey with PillowsTopCleaningService. I appreciate the process more than anything, I think some times as entrepreneurs we get so caught up in the goal and miss out on the process which is the most important part. When I started my business out of a place of “need” I did not have the vision I do now for my business from when I first started and that is because along the way in the process is when the vision was revealed and given to me. When I made my first flyer I had no idea that I would be cleaning 5-6 days out the week just a month after posting it in a random Facebook group nor that 2 years in I would be at a stand still. I surely did not know that 3 years in I would be giving my testimony on how I started and where I am and where I plan to take my business. I say all this to say, the journey and the process is the most vital part for any goal in entrepreneurship. When we meet certain goals we are on to the next goal, however all are unattainable without the process being executed. I have learned so much and enjoying the journey is something I have learned to do. Being comfortable with being uncomfortable has helped me tremendously with the growth of being a business owner. I enjoy what I do in my business as well as my career in the criminal justice system and in both fields my top priority is to serve Gods people, in doing so I have learned not to let fear control me and that comparison is the thief of joy!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston is absolutely amazing and a fun time. I was born and raised in Denver but HTX has my heart. Needless to say, as a single mom and outdoorsman I love all the family spots and parks. I defiantly would take a trip to all the parks beginning with Memorial Park, Buffalo Bayou, Discovery Green and Hermann Park which would lead us to the museum district. The zoo, and any museum, you could think of is all in that one area. We could eat at my now favorite vegan Mexican spot on the North Side like everyday. It’s called Andaluz and it is so delightful. We would get ice cream at Jenni’s or POST HTX. Despite me being vegetarian I know it’s many restaurants I just would have to tap everyone in to from, TASTE, Trill Burger, Swamp City, and Graces. I am sure there are so many other spots but honestly Houston is just way too big and a week would never be possible to get all the fun in. If visiting Houston, visit as if you’re traveling to another country stay for awhile!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The overflow of the discipline and growth I’ve gotten from my criminal justice field has supported me in the molding of being a business owner… so shout out to it! I have been blessed to have amazing leaders and mentors who encourage me, as well as the not so good ones who have showed me what not to do and be like. All in which have helped me and are helping me on this entrepreneurial journey and they don’t even know it. I recommend a book titled “Who Moved My Cheese” by Spencer Johnson 10/10! The most important book that has helped me is the Holy Bible! It is no way around that one. Special Shoutout to my sisters in Christ Cassie, Tamara, Niya! They have encouraged me so much and held me accountable to my YES and obedience. Special shoutout to my beautiful sister Rana of the “TheChampagneBrows” (make sure yall tap in with her!) She has held my name high and placed my name in rooms I never thought I would be in. Overall special thanks and shoutout to everyone who has supported my business both known and unknown!
