We had the good fortune of connecting with Naomi Morgan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Naomi, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with AllShe Academy after one of my videos about resumes went viral on LinkedIn. I had numerous amounts of people reaching out to me to look over their resumes. I would honestly do it for free because I feel like it’s important that we allow knowledge to Flow freely amongst our people. Within these conversations many of them would always say, you need to mentor others, or do a podcast, or come up with some type of way to reach others. At the time I didn’t feel like I was knowledgeable enough for people will listen to me. After writing out a well thought business plan one day I just woke up and decided to start my online mentoring program.

What should our readers know about your business?
A lot of my success, or successful things that I’ve done, have stemmed from a place of pain. My mentorship program AllShe Academy Is an extension of my book, Past the BS. When I first started working in corporate America I was the youngest black woman in the office, and the only black woman in HR. I heard numerous amounts of racist banter amongst my colleagues. I was literally treated like the hired help and at the end of the day fired over false rumors. Throughout my time at my first company I documented everything that I heard and felt. I felt like it was important for my peers and those coming into corporate America to understand what they might experience as a person of color. My book and experience is the foundation for why I started my mentorship program.

AllShe Academy is a non-profit online mentorship program that aims to give young women in economic advantage through mentorship, financial literacy, networking, scholarships, and grants. I always knew that I had a giving heart, and I wanted to give back to others. This isn’t a path that I chose, it’s God‘s path for me.

One of the greatest lessons that I’ve learned in life, actually came from my mother. She would always say that I don’t mind is the devils playground. And to always keep yourself busy with positive things. Secondly, I learned the power of no. Instead of looking at haters, or drawbacks as a negative thing to feel sad about, I use it as a power tool to push forward and prove people wrong. Drawbacks are part of the process to success. We have to embrace and except it. You can only reach success once you figure out a way to break through. If you never have a breakthrough story then can you truly say that you’re successful?

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a huge foodie. When I would have friends come and visit from San Antonio I would automatically plan to take them to restaurants off of Westheimer Road or we would go barhopping on Washington Avenue. I always look up hotspots on Instagram and save them. I’m also a little weird and I like to save locations that I see other people post that I think would be really nice and interesting to go to. Houston has a lot of hidden gems that even the internet doesn’t give you. You honestly just have to drive around and stop at a place that you feel like would be nice to go to. Exploring is my thing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother, Nichelle Morgan, is a salon owner. Watching her navigate the ups and downs of her salon really inspires me to just go forth with whatever plan I have in my head and know that things will work out in the end.
