We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalya Hutchinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Natalya, what do you attribute your success to?
I’d say believing in myself. I’ve always known that I wanted to be an artist since elementary school. Though I had doubts of actually accomplishing this, I knew that no one else could do it for me. After fighting with myself throughout the years, my most successful moments were when I said “Yea, I can do that”, knowing it would be my first time diving into that particular style or medium. The joy and love I’d receive from executing was everything. From then, projects would continue to come through. “I’m a Natural” isn’t just a brand, it’s a mantra that’s helped me to continue to believe in myself.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’d like to call myself a pretty versatile artist/creative. I always thought that I had to stay within a certain box in order to call myself an artist or designer, but it never felt right. I enjoy learning and experimenting. I love to switch things up and challenge myself. So I’m excited about the upcoming ideas that I have racing through my mind because it’ll be different from what most are used to seeing from me.
I got to where I am today by finally throwing fear out once and for all. It’s not easy and it wasn’t overnight. But I knew that something was always holding me back and it was fear. If I wanted to move forward towards my destiny, I had to be okay with making mistakes and not being perfect. In order for me to accomplish this and continue to, I always aim to get to the root cause of why I’m fearful. I ask myself deep questions, write, and sit in silence. The answers always show up.
I’ve learned that we can pray, manifest, and read all the books we want… but if we aren’t putting in the work and applying what we’ve learned, then we will forever be in a continuous cycle of getting nowhere. It’s all about action. As people always say, there isn’t a perfect time…the time is now.
ImaNATural is read as “I’m a Natural”. NAT is an acroynym of Natural and Talented. Nat is also my nickname. Everything is connected just like us all. We are all connected whether we like it or not, but it doesn’t exclude us from being individuals. We all have endless gifts, talents, and strengths that were not given to us to waste. No matter whose word you value the most, always check in with yourself. Our intuition always knows what’s best for our own destiny. ImaNATural represents reverting back to our natural state of being and encouraging the processes of getting there (ie. working out, clean eating, meditating, understanding the biology of our bodies, where we come from, etc). Healing from the inside out would allow us to trust ourselves more and move us closer to our purpose.
I’m dedicated to spreading this awareness through different outlets. I have plans to expand into other avenues and hopefully partnerships in the future to accomplish these goals. At this moment in time, my main way is through uplifting expressive art and helping businesses take on their purpose through designing.
I provide on my online store: original art and prints, clothing, pillows, and creative services (including logos and branding, paintings, photography, murals, and more). I’ve painted on garments and shoes, designed and printed shirts, and sculpted. I’m open for anything creative and uplifting!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely eating at Liberty Kitchen, Snooze, First Watch, Aga’s Restaurant, Flower Child, Mia’s Table, Cool Runnings and HS Greens. Getting dessert at Milk & Cookies, Creamistry, Sorbetiere, and the farmer’s market (yall are missing out).
Unwind and create at Discovery Green and the cabins in the woods called Getaway. Look at art in Midtown, Eado, and the Heights. Then take them to some of the hidden gems at night in Houston while riding some bikes.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The one thing I have always said was that I had a great support system in every aspect of my life. So I thank my Creator, my parents, my brother, sister-in-law, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, current friends/besties, special friends, UNT professors, UH professors, Sugar Land School of Fine Art, Fresh Arts, The Printing Museum, track coaches, seasonal friends, Biotics Research Corp, the book “Quiet”, and everyone else I’ve met along the way through markets, shows, etc.
My journey has been positive regardless of the hurdles. I’ve never felt unsupported in my path and that’s a true blessing that I will continue to cherish.
