We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicholas Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicholas, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I started my business it was to establish a place that would be comfortable as well as motivational for people to reach their personal goals. Since I originally started personal training at a larger corporate gym I noticed how people felt insecure about exercising in front of larger groups of people. Mainly because it’s their personal insecurities and lack of knowledge of what to do to get to where they want to be. So I knew I needed to duplicate what I was doing but just on a smaller scale.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have always tried to perfect my craft and make it so anyone can do it. It definitely was not easy to transition from a larger gym where they lay out clientele for you to being solely in charge of marketing and the inner workings of a fitness facility. I feel like at this point in my career I can work with anyone. Any age, any fitness level and background it doesn’t matter. That the basis of my gym and the programs I offer. I make it welcoming but at the same time challenging. Since I was certified in corrective exercise form and progression are my main focus. Building everyone from the ground up safely.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well anyone who knows me knows 2 things I love superheros and I love the Houston rockets. So first stop would have to be to the Toyota center to check out a game, box seats of course. Next stop would have to the graffiti area on st Emanuel street because Houston has some great artwork. Another thing I feel Houston is great for is the food but me personally I’m a food truck kinda guy. One of my favorites is chitalian pizzeria. Their pizza and wings are amazing! Last stop would be to deerbrook mall to visit think Greek. I cannot go in this place without buying at least one it item to add to my superhero collection
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The road to starting a business on any scale is very difficult. I wouldn’t be where I am with the support of my family. I also couldn’t have made it without my loyal clientele. They have been with my throughout all my ups and downs and never gave up on me. There was even a point where I was having to train outdoors at the park while I searched for a location to open my gym and you know what they still showed up for every class. I am truly blessed to have such amazing people around me. Even when I made the decision to transition from a full time, good paying job to pursue my dream they never doubted me and make sure anything I needed help with they were there
