Hi Nidja, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My decision to start my own business came from a very personal journey. After experiencing severe hair loss and short hair that was struggling to grow, I began developing my own herbal hair oil blend at home. I started researching, experimenting, and creating a formula using powerful herbs like fenugreek, rosemary, nettle, horsetail, and nourishing oils like castor, olive, and amla. What began as a personal healing journey became something bigger when I started seeing real results and receiving positive feedback from others who tried it.
That’s how Goddess Mane Hair Oils was born—out of necessity, care, and a desire to provide real, natural solutions to others dealing with similar issues. From there, my business grew into Maverick Homemade Goods, expanding into holistic body care with products like body scrubs, soaps, and bath soaks, all rooted in wellness, nature, and intention.
What drives me is the idea of offering everyday rituals that support self-care, confidence, and growth. I also take pride in connecting with the community through local events and trusted retailers like Olive May, where my products are now stocked. It’s been a powerful experience to transform a personal challenge into a growing brand that helps others feel good in their skin.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Maverick Homemade Goods was born from a deeply personal place—my own journey of healing, self-reclamation, and ancestral connection. What sets us apart is our intentionality. Every product I offer is handmade, holistic, and rooted in love, research, and ritual. My formulations aren’t trendy blends—I carefully craft them using herbs and oils chosen for their energetic and medicinal qualities.
One of the most pivotal moments in my business was creating Goddess Mane Hair Oil after my own hair loss. I didn’t just want to grow my hair back—I wanted to grow something meaningful, something that could help others the way it helped me. That product laid the foundation for what would become a full line of herbal body care goods. And when I partnered with my sister, Kiamo Stroud—another talented herbalist—we were able to bring even more vision to life, including our herbal oral care line, *Tooth of the Lion*.
Starting a business hasn’t been easy. I’ve had to navigate everything from product development and branding to customer trust and legal logistics. But every challenge has taught me something—patience, flexibility, discernment. I learned that authenticity is my strongest currency, and that building slow and intentionally always wins over rushing.
What I want the world to know is this: Maverick Homemade Goods is more than a brand—it’s a vessel for wellness, empowerment, and ancestral care. Whether it’s hair oil, beard care, or oral health, everything we create is made to support your wholeness, naturally and intentionally.

I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to Kiamo Stroud—my business partner, sister, and fellow herbalist. Her wisdom, creativity, and unwavering support have been instrumental in the growth of Maverick Homemade Goods. She played a major role in helping me formulate Tooth of the Lion, our herbal oral care product, and has contributed to the development of many of the offerings we share today. I’m deeply grateful for her presence, insight, and the way she pours her energy into everything we create together.
