We had the good fortune of connecting with Oksana Petrushchak and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Oksana, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
The risk has changed my professional life. My first serious work wasn’t focused on what I dreamed of, and I wasted four years of my life there. The best decision was to leave the job and focus all my strength during a year to improve my art and get a chance in what I always wanted, digital art for entertainment.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I always knew that art was my path. All I studied was in this way (illustration, concept art, comic, private art lessons, etc.), and everything helped me to be where I am now. Even my laborious work experience helped me to grow as a person. When I left behind stable work and a good independent life, I got into a year of uncertainty only to improve my skills. I dedicated lots of time to every new piece of work without knowing if it would be enough for the person behind the screen evaluating my portfolio. But when you are persistent and a hard worker, things happen, and now I’m right in the place I want to be.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had to guide someone, I would do it near the sea and warm weather, like the place I’m living in, the Canary Islands. I will take advantage of the day to show nature and beautiful places. This island is full of amazing volcanic beaches! Nights here are lovely, is nice to go walking into crowded and principal avenues, marveling at the contrast of warm lights decoring the streets. For dinner, we will go to a “guachinche” typical place to eat some fried fish, delicious!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The people I am working with are amazing! I can sincerely say that my daily life is better because of them. However, my special mention is to my partner Joshua Cairós an exceptional artist and an exemplar for me. He is the one that encourages me to make the hardest and the rightest decisions in real and the painted life.
