We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Reagan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Olivia, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I am a calculated risk taker. Risk is already demanded of an entrepreneur as soon as you decide to become one. No one has your back, besides yourself. No one is giving you a paycheck every two weeks as a security blanket – you have to work hard; day in, and day out. I have always been meticulous and calculated when it comes to business decisions. I like to take safe bets. I rely heavily on my instincts and intuition when making decisions. When I cannot make a decision (in life or business), I retreat. I regain my solitude, quiet my mind, and listen to my gut intuition. It almost always answers.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Two things I am excited about in my personal business ventures right now are 1) Going online in the next few months for my Women’s Ready to Wear brand – Olivia Reagan (coming soon!!) and 2) We are in negotiations right now for a pop up in the Hamptons this summer for La Soeur. While nothing is set in stone — we are still excited to think of the endless possibilities in the near future. One of the lessons I’ve learned in business (as well as life in general) is to not hold on too tightly to any “plan” you have set out. Life has a plan for you and it does not care what you think in your mind will happen. You have to be ready to be a chameleon at the drop of a hat. The second you think you have it all figured out – – life shows you otherwise! Don’t take it as a hardship – shift your sails & journey on down the path life has set out for you; I promise its a better trail. 😉
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston has more museums. restaurants, parks, and clothing stores than one can fit in to even a months long itinerary! But, if i had a guest in town for a week, some of my favorite spots to hit are below: Shopping: Piermarini in Rice Village. It’s the only spot I’ll shop at (besides my own brand or pop up). They have the best, highest quality, and most unique buy I have found in Houston thus far. Also – the owners + staff (Tina, John, & Kyla) make you feel like its a personal shopping experience. They really get to know you as a client and get to know your full wardrobe. They won’t steer you wrong! Museums: Menil in Montrose. I like the Menil museum because its smaller and more intimate than the other ones in Houston. It’s not intimidating to take on. You can get through the whole museum in 45 minutes! Also — added bonus to picnic outside if its a beautiful day! Food: Toulouse in River Oaks District. I don’t want to be so cliche – but it does have a nice outdoor vibe and a lot of us in Houston tend to always find ourselves there due to that particular reason alone (esp with covid!) It’s also nice to take a stroll after eating and pop into a store or two as your food coma slowly dissipates. (I’m kind of a home body – so ill leave it to these three for now!)Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to all of our clients who have become frirends, all of our landlords/ the management teams who have been so helpful and a joy to work with ( the Simon Group at the Galleria mall, Dan with Cafe Brasil, and Weingarten Realty for the River Oaks Shopping Center), and most importantly ALL of the brands who make La Soeur pop up such a success! We become such a close knit group by the end of the pop ups. We have fun and we support one another! I cannot say thank you enough to all of them, as they play such an important role in making the pop ups successful.
