Meet Ontario Byrd | Storyteller and Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ontario Byrd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ontario, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
it was kind of already destined for me from the jump. Both of my parents were artists, and they always pushed me to try anything and everything to really find my own way. I didn’t see myself doing anything. I just love making shit honestly.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
i love telling black and brown stories. during my come up I did not really see alot of stories highlighting black and brown folks. So instead of constantly complaining about the lack of representation. I just decided to tell my own stories about the things that I would like to see. I’m really big on community and what comes with that and what that looks like to rep where you come from. Being from Oklahoma, people always over look us, but me showcasing what talent that the state has to offer . maybe i could change the tide

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
WE GOTTA GET PHO!! usually after most of my photoshoots we go to pho cuong in okc! it’s damn near become a tradition after my shoots! anywhere in the paseo arts district if that’s their vibe! I usually just do stuff at my house with my friends and family and we make our own fun!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my family, blood related or not. Without them supporting me 110% I probably would not have the confidence in myself to pursue what I’m doing now. It’s been a long journey and they’ve seen me in my highest of highs and lowest of lows. also shoutout to tyler the creator. bro always inspires me to just go for it. imma meet him one day on some random waffle house type shit!
