We had the good fortune of connecting with Pamela O’Brien and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pamela, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I am very passionate about design and not just because it’s pretty. I believe that everyone needs a space where they can relax, rejuvenate and be themselves. Your personal space, whether just a room or a whole house needs to be safe, healthy and comfortable. Making it attractive and functional are added bonuses. These are core values to me and at our firm, Pamela Hope Designs. We strive for safety, comfort and beauty for all. We also believe that good design is a huge pleasure and we want our clients to enjoy the process as well as the results.
What should our readers know about your business?
Not only do I really love design, I love educating people on how to make the best design choices for their project. It’s not just a question of style, there are real, scientific and personal reasons why one selection may serve the client better than another.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston has a vibrant arts and food scene. I’d start most days with a workout or yoga classes at The Houstonian where I am a member. Late morning could be spent exploring fun areas like Montrose and the Heights where we could sip a coffee, browse for gifts and art or antiques and then find a delicious lunch. Houston has some great happy hours so I’d plan a few of those. Walking in Memorial Park near my home is a nice way to experience nature right in the middle of Houston. I’d also save time for a day trip or overnight to Galveston where I’d suggest visiting the historic district, shopping for souvenirs on The Strand and enjoying Gulf seafood.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Being a member of the American Society of Interior Design (ASID) was a huge goal for me in my early days of design. When I became a member, I jumped right in, attending events and taking continuing education classes. I also found many of my sources through the industry partner program. I still work with those same firms today and several of the business owners served as invaluable mentors for me.
