We had the good fortune of connecting with Phoenix Malone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Phoenix, what principle do you value most?
Quality Improvement. I believe in continuing to be better at my craft, not only so it can just be better but so that my craft can become so uniquely me that it can’t be copied. I want my creations to feel like it could have only been done by me
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I make comedy skits. What sets me apart is the style of my skits. I don’t like that “in your face” slap stick type of comedy. My content is well thought out and has a plot. I like to take regular ideas or normal experiences and exaggerate them. I learned that what makes most things funny is the relativity of the joke and the difference in perspective, because we all experience similar things but the way that we experience those things is different. So I’ve become confident in sharing my perspective and just knowing that someone is going to like it. It wasn’t easy getting there. It takes time to build up confidence in something like this because you have to get use to creating for the sake of creating and become somewhat numb to criticism. Everyone won’t like it, but as long as I like it that’s what matters
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would start off at a park in the morning because a sunrise in the park is so peaceful. I feel like morning air gives your brain a reset. And then go eat brunch somewhere like harvest kitchen they have the best Belgian waffle I’ve ever tasted. I’m not gonna lie that’s probably it because I’m not good at planning things so we’ll be winging it the rest of the week. And if they’re my best friend they should understand and accept that
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my girlfriend Stacy. She is so supportive. She invests her time and energy into my craft. She’s always encouraging me to make a big deal out of what I’m doing. She gives me the space that I need to do what I need to do and never questions it. It feels good to have someone believe in you because sometimes it gets hard to believe in yourself, especially when it gets tough to see the progress in what you’re doing
