We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachelle Banuelos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachelle, what makes you happy? Why?
My children. My children are such a blessing, they are so happy and carefree. Knowing that I’m the one that has provided and safe and happy Environment for this lights my soul.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started out with a brush and palette literally. I was just a girl who wanted to look beautiful on her wedding day. It wasn’t until I picked more skill I realized I was really good at this, I could actually transform an Appearance with the flick of my wrist at just the right angle. And what an amazing feeling that was. And with YouTube I could learn even more. My first goal was to get a job in the beauty industry and soak up as much information as could. My second goal was to take what I’ve learned and show other people, make the powerful and strong. The same way I did.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Who comes to H-town and doesn’t want BBQ? We’re going to “The Pit Room” it is hands down the best brisket in the city. Most of our would consist of eating I love eating. And shopping in Rice Village, all the shops and book stores! My God the book stores! We be full to the point of busting with a whole suitcase filled with books
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother. My mom had me at 19 years old. The odds were against, a single young black woman the statistics were not on her side. When I was 11 she lost her mother, and not until I was older did I understand she had to raise me on her own, while grieving the most important in her life. What a strong woman to keep her head above water and raise me. She put herself through school and became a respected person in her field. She’s the most amazing woman I know.
