We had the good fortune of connecting with Ro Wavy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ro, do you have a budget?
I definitely have a budget. Everyone should have a budget. I always make sure my responsibilities are taken care of before I make any personal purchases. I base my lifestyle and spending decisions on how much money I have left over after obligations have been met. If the money I have left over isn’t enough to buy a specific item two to three times over then I deem it not fiscally responsible to make that purchase.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I got to where I am today, by not giving up on music. I always felt like writing and creating music was my form of therapy. I get to express myself freely , all while connecting with others on a deeper level. Nothing about pursuing music is easy. The easiest part for me as an artist is writing music , because there’s always a melody stuck in my head waiting to be free. I feel like the hardest part of being an independent artist is funding everything yourself. You have to pay producers, you have to pay engineers, you have to pay videographers, you have to pay to get your songs on streaming platforms, so on and so forth. Sometimes people tend to forget that artist are just normal people too. I have bills to pay just like everyone else ,so sometimes I have to take a step back from what I love so I can take care of responsibilities. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is that , if you love something then never stop pursuing it. We only have one life and what good is it if you’re not doing something you love. What I want the world to know about me is that I’m a creative in different aspects. I don’t just make music , I go to open-mic poetry, I draw, I paint, I don’t just limit myself to just one form of art. If you love something then go for it!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It’d be too hard to set up an itinerary. It’s so many places to go , so much good food, so many places with good atmosphere. We’d have to play everyday by ear and try to hit all the spots we can before they leave.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shed light on all the people who have helped me along my musical journey. A big shoutout to my brother Sage Kai, we started out as college roommates , but became family to one another and he was the main reason I kept pursuing music. My guy San Carlo, if it wasn’t for him I would’ve never recorded the very first song that I put on streaming platforms “Living Dead” . I actually have some music produced by these talented individuals coming soon. I also want to thank my boy Sam at Three hound sound studios, one of the best engineers I’ve worked with so far. He always keeps up with my pace, adds great input every time, and makes sure the music quality is top notch. I also want to thank Dan2TheL , awesome videographer and always helps bring my vision to the screen. I want to shoutout all of my family and friends for their continuous support over the years and their encouragement to keep pursuing my dreams. I also want to thank my fans who have been behind me since my first drop. Without any listeners there wouldn’t be a Ro Wavy.
