We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Oloyede and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robin, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
Currently, I am more and more inspired by my children! This quarantine time has shown me that children are more than capable of really achieving their dreams, which furthers Colorfull Plates’ vision even further for me. It reminds me that both parents and kids out there are all trying really hard, so now really is the time to dive into their kid’s potential at each mealtime with a little bit of fun.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My background is in marketing and communications, so sitting down and learning about how businesses grow through words and visuals is always fascinating to me. Having that curiosity about how the biggest brands in the world have used their marketing has has helped me overcome the challenge of communicating to children who may not be reading yet! Each Colorfull Plate tells a story just from the images that are on the plate. The parents and children build their own stories at mealtimes and that is the best round circle for me thus far in my career.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love my city, but to narrow down the choices is tough! For sure, anyone who visits here needs to have a trip to the Houston Botanical Garden, it’s huge and a perfect place to walk outdoors, be inspired by the scenery, and catch up. For food, you can’t go wrong with a trip to Taste Bar + Kitchen (get the lamb chops!), grab a burger from Hotline Burger in Underground Hall downtown (tell Thomas I sent you), and grab some Korean food from Yong in Finn Hall. Oyster Creek has frozen sweet tea that will cool down any summer day, plus the atmosphere is awesome. Color Factory is one of my favorite spots to take anyone who loves interactive experiences.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutouts! First, tons of thanks goes to Colorfull Plates’ COO, Lechelle for constantly grinding alongside me. To Matt and Marlon for all the behind-the-scenes support. To all our customers and supporters who believe in our mission, to have a Colorfull Plate on a million tables!
