We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabella Reyes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sabella, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Before I started Covert Beauty, I’d often find myself in situations where I sacrificed what I wanted for what I needed. I needed my job, I needed friends, I needed companionship and I needed to be successful. This caused me to train myself to believe that having a job I actually enjoyed, friends/companions who actually knew me, and being naturally successful were too far-fetched. I had totally neglected my need for balance! Once I realized how critical the balance between what I wanted and what I needed was to my success, I immediately began to prioritize my wants. This new balance eventually led to me making a major career change, losing a few friends, making a few enemies, committing to a marriage, moving across the country, and starting a new beauty brand! These changes will always be the reason why I fight for this balance in my life, because without it I’m not at my best. I’m convinced that every big dreamer needs this balance.

What should our readers know about your business?
Covert Beauty, LLC uses amazing cosmetic products as ice breakers t0 introduce the discussion of social injustice issues, while using the revenue to provide access to non-profit resources that are actively addressing these issues. Covert Beauty’s network of non-profit organizations includes, but is not limited to Aunt Bertha, the National Alliance of Mental Illness and the Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network. For example, the company launched two eyeshadow palettes last summer; Sisters in Arms and My Sister’s Keeper. Both eyeshadow palettes are dedicated to bringing awareness to military sexual trauma. The shades inside of the Sisters in Arms eyeshadow palette are named after 15 brave, female survivors of military trauma and the shades inside of the My Sister’s Keeper eyeshadow palette are named after 15 brave, male advocates who are taking a stand against military sexual trauma. These brave, male advocates are either military veterans or active duty service members. When a consumer buys one of these eyeshadow palettes, a portion of the proceeds are being donated to the Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network (RAINN), the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence non-profit organization. Covert Beauty MEN is an extension of Covert Beauty, LLC, which consists of an organic line of hygiene products for men. Whenever a consumer purchases a Covert Beauty MEN product, they will be prompted to choose a cause they’d like a portion of their proceeds to be donated to. Currently, Covert Beauty MEN product consumers can choose from the following causes: military sexual trauma awareness, mental illness awareness, and local social service awareness. These issues along with real testimonies are discussed on Covert Beauty’s official podcast, It’s Time to Uncovert, available on Spotify and YouTube. Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Great Houston Area is full of gems! It’s difficult to list all of my favorite things to do in the city. I’d totally let my friend decide what they wanted to do and I’d build the itinerary from there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I must emphasize that the concept behind the operation of Covert Beauty, LLC is more than just a good idea; it’s a God idea! I am confident that my duties and responsibilities as it pertains to running this company have been delegated to me by my Creator. It is the highest honor. With that being said, Covert Beauty is a brand for the people! I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to all of the loyal supporters of Covert Beauty, LLC. Especially to the brave women and men who have trusted Covert Beauty’s platform to share their truth. I love you all. I’d also like to recognize my amazing team! Ricardo Reyes (my husband) and my sisters Alexis Batey, Devon Cason, and Zanelle Danaee each volunteer their time and efforts to ensuring Covert Beauty, LLC is operating as the premium brand it has been designed to be. Their selflessness is what sustains the personable culture experienced by our consumers and their family members. I can’t thank them enough.
