We had the good fortune of connecting with Saima Haroon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi SAIMA, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When I was in my 20’s and 30’s I had a career in dentistry which allowed me to primarily focus on my patients. I worked 6 days a week. My life seemed balanced as long as I made time for Family, friends and working out. When I hit my mid 30’s , I had 2 children and also was diagnosed with cancer. I soon realized the meaning of life and purpose.. My faith was tried and my peace wavered at times and the weight of the world began to descend at times. That is when I realized how important having a work /life balance truly is. Each day I am on a journey to be successful at work, being physically and mentally present for my children and their school and extra cirricular activities which include baseball, basketball, gymnastics. Also being a good daughter, sister, aunt, friend, partner and chef. LOL Working moms wear many hats!
Once realized the importance of having a healthy work life balance and how it can affect ones overall well being. I have since stopped practicing dentistry and am now am a manager at a medical device company. I help people who suffer with sleep apnea and cant use CPAP. My job has allowed me flexibility, allowing me to work, have helpful teammates and still be home for my children each evening. Now I take a few minutes to myself each day before attacking the world. I surround myself with meaningful people and a lot of laughter which seems to fuel my soul . And when I feel like Iifes challenges are hitting hard, I make sure to step back , ask for help, and learn to say no to things . This in itself was hard task for me to do.
Now I have created a balance that works for me .

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I STARTED OFF MY CAREER IN DENTISTRY. I GRADUATED FROM UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AND PRACTICED FOR 10 YRS. I THEN TRANSITIONED INTO MEDICAL DEVICE . IT CAME NATURALLY TO ME AS I LOVE MEDICINE , HELPING PEOPLE AND I KNOW HOW TO GROW BUSINESSES. I AM A 12 TIME PRESIDENTS CLUB RECIPIENT AND I LOVE WHAT I DO. MY SUCCESS IS BECAUSE HARD WORK WAS INSTILLED IN ME AT A VERY EARLY AGE BY BOTH OF MY IMMIGRANT PARENTS. THEY TAUGHT ME TO GET UP EACH DAY AND WORK HARD. IM GRATEFUL TO HAVE THAT DEVELPOPMENTINSTILLED IN ME AT AN EARLY AGE.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
IF MY BEST FRIEND WAS VISITING , WE WOULD DEF TRY OUR THE NEWEST RESTAURANT AS WE BOTH ARE FOODIES. WE ARE CONSTANTLY CRACKING JOKES SO GOING TO A COMEDY SHOW OR CHECKING OUT OUR FAVORITE BASEBALL TEAM, THE ASTROS.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I GIVE A LOT OF CREDIT TO MY FAMILY FOR BEING THEIR FOR ME ESPECIALLY DURING MY CANCER TREATMENTS. MY CLOSE FRIENDS AND FELLOW MOMS WHO HELP WITH MENTORSHIP AND ALSO THE MY COLLEGUES AND MANAGER FOR CREATING A WORK ENVIRONMENT THAT ALLOWS OUR TEAM TO HAVE A HEALTHY WORK LIFE BALANCE. NONE OF THIS IS POSSIBLE WITHOUT THEIR WAVERING SUPPORT . i AM IMMENSELY GRATEFUL TO HAVE SUCH A STRONG CIRCLE.
