We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Mansur and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I felt inspired by the demand for a new vision that brings more sophistication and European references without losing regional characteristics. But the main reason is to show my daughter that it is possible to be a mom and pursue her dream career, investing your time and energy into something you love.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I worked on a range of high-end custom residential homes throughout Houston and gained invaluable experience in the design process from start to finish. When my youngest started Elementary, I was ready to pursue my dream of starting my own company. I earned my architect and urbanism degree and Master’s in marketing from a top 10 Univesity in Brazil. I also studied Interior design at the Art Institute of Houston. After doing commercial architecture and interiors, when I moved to Houston, I decided it was time to do what I liked the most! Design curated residential spaces that are a beautiful reflection of what’s most important to my clients.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start having a coffee and cookie at Tiny Boxwood and go to my favorite area, Menil Park. I love this part of the city. It is incredible to be surrounded by shady oak trees and sculptures.
On one side, you have the Menil Collection Museum. On the other, Rothko Chapel, and not to mention Cy Twombly Gallery, which is outstanding! Also, a stop at the Menil Bistro for lunch and a visit to the Byzantine Fresco Chapel would be fantastic.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Every person in my life deserves credit for who I am: my friends, teachers, and designers in Houston. Special credits to my husband, my mom and my kids, who never let me give up and always supported me in the difficult moments, believed in my work, and always taught me to be a better human being.
