We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandy Butanda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sandy, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
My end goal is to have my own line of commercial cleaning supplies. Or to at least have one group of ladies working under the business name, train them the proper way of the cleaning business. As well keep and have client’s that respect or value our hard work. By the end of my career professionally, I just want to focus on the cleaning supply line. Or possibly make the dream little bigger and open a small store with professional cleaning supplies. I have many goals I want to accomplish for my small cleaning business, but only God will direct me the path. As longest I know that I put in the hard work, things will fall into place.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I been in the cleaning business for six years. I’m located mainly in the north area of Houston. I named the business Shine Services by Sandy because it’s just not a cleaning service, we do sale commercial cleaning products, and have a fogging service. The fogging service is using a disinfectant, for a covid or flu out-brake. I’m very proud how far I have come along in such a short time into the cleaning business. Not where I exactly I want to be but with faith I will reach my goals that I want to accomplish for Shine Services. I started with a client every other day, just a job I needed meanwhile my kids where in school. Never did I taught I will end up needing to hire someone to help me in less than three- six months of working. Thinking this was just to keep my self busy while my kids were in school. Came to realize that I started with no money, no knowledge, and only thing I had was my passion of cleaning. The passion of helping other people. Into taking care of their homes as if it was my home. The satisfaction I will get to see the before and after of the cleaning service. Then communicating with my clients making sure everything was done correctly for them. Every client has different ways of keeping their homes in certain ways. I will make sure I did things the way they will be comfortable coming back home from a hard day at work. Some clients like their beds made a certain way, some clients don’t like the smell of Clorox or Mr Clean. I will make sure to hear my clients out and understand them this way. I think that there is many of the reasons what makes me stand out from other cleaning services. I’m all about the details and I try to bring that into my cleaning service business. I might not stand out a lot by posting on social media or having many followers in social media. That there doesn’t mean we are not busy or stand out. Most of my clients come from seeing my work, some have come from referrals, reviews and some from minimal advertising. When I reached my goal of cleaning residential, I wanted to expand to commercial cleaning. The opportunity came with an investor hiring me to do commercial cleaning and from there I got the motivation. I started expanding and advertising into commercial cleaning. Not quite where I want to be in the commercial cleaning, but I will reach the goal soon. There has been so many lessons and challenges in the process. Overall, I have been blessed through the process. There have been times where I just want to give up because it’s still not a big business and it slows down at times. You count on your clients to make it everyday for a descent pay week. Being self-employed has its positives and negatives but you have to push forward to see results. I’m thankful for the clients I have built through the six years in business. I have loyal clients that want a serious cleaning service that they can count on. It wasn’t easy building my loyal clients. My clients have become more then just clients and this is what makes it special. They know they can count on me, the business owner being there and getting the job down correctly. I’m in a place where I can choose my clients or where I get clients that are serious about getting their homes clean on a regular schedule. Six years into the business, I don’t have to search much for work. I’m recognized by the work I do and how loyal I am with my job. I still want to grow in the commercial cleaning and as well by creating a cleaning brand for cleaning chemicals. I want the world to know that a cleaning service business needs to be recognized a little more, be more valued. We as a cleaning service owners need to learn from other cleaning services by helping each other with advice. Support one another, to help others shine, all you have to do is show them your own light. For me what makes me push is that I love what I do. Remember with faith and prayers you will accomplish great things.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is known for a great baseball team, The Astros. Definitely have to attend a baseball game. After, explore downtown restaurants and bars in the area. Take lots of pictures in the art gallery walls in downtown. Stay at the popular Texas shape pool hotel. Must visit The Space Center. Then, head to do some shopping in Galleria. We can’t forget to visit Galveston or Kemah.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Most importantly is that I’m thankful and blessed God gave me the opportunity to take this path in the cleaning business. I feel I have a gift, passion, and an eye for cleaning. No one taught me to clean, it all came naturally. I’m good at what I do. Some people might think I’m overpriced but you get the same cleaning or possibly better every time I go into my client’s homes. Shout out to my little family who supports me in my crazy work schedule, and who are there to help me when I need extra help.
Cleaning business is not a business that is very well recognized for the hard work it takes to do. I push for so many reasons, I want this type of business to be recognize. I have important women in my life that have the same type of business who I look up to. They have very minimal degree or speak minimal English. Due to that they don’t get treated fairly and get paid very minimal. To that and many more reasons, I look up to them and I want to stand up for them. Thanks to their effort and hard work I learn from them. Hard working women I have in my life who deserve credit and recognization for pushing trough with not very much knowledge. So for the women that are in the cleaning business I want to dedicate this shoutout to you, for your hard work.
