We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Corning and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sara, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?

Molnar Speech Therapy makes functional communication and activities of daily living more accessible and more successful for children with communication disorders, developmental delays, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Through play-based therapy, children improve the essential skill of functional communication and improve their ability to voice their wants and needs, participate in activities of daily living, and express themselves to loved ones and friends. Being able to communicate effectively is a very important skill that impacts every aspect of life. Molnar Speech Therapy is passionate about and has the sole aim of giving children the skills they need to be confident, successful, and happy in their daily lives.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would say what sets me apart from other speech therapy providers is that I have a huge focus on functional communication and play-based therapy. I love working with the littles (children 3-5), especially littles who have delays, because those years between 3-5 are huge in development. But for kiddos with delays, development is slower and milestones are harder to achieve. From my experience, I know how important even the smallest amount of communication is. Just to have your kid sign a word or tell you that they need something is such a big success. At Molnar Speech Therapy we celebrate even the smallest successes. The smallest amount of progress is a big deal here. We work closely with parents as well to ensure that what they want for their child is always addressed. It wasn’t necessarily difficult to get where I am today. But it was a big leap for me to go out on my own with this business. I was nervous but I am thankful for my years of training in school and my experience in various school districts. And my passion to build a place where children who are struggling can come in and receive individualized, fun therapy and make progress really pushed me to take the leap. And I’m glad I did. I want the world to know that Molnar Speech Therapy is a welcoming place where your child will be accepted for who they are and where they are developmentally and that the therapy I provide will be individualized and carefully planned so that they can make progress and be successful communicating in their academic and social environments.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So Kemah is a great area because there’s alot to do in the actual town but it’s also so close to Houston and Galveston that day trips are easy!

So we would definitely have to visit the Kemah Boardwalk! The Boardwalk has a great view of the ocean and many good places to eat, like the Aquarium Restaurant. The Boardwalk also has rides, like the Ferris wheel, and fun carnival games.

Close to town is a fun K-Pop shop with interesting snacks from Japan, Pokemon plushies, and tons of merchandise for anime and K-pop group fans.

We would also have to visit El Jardin Beach. It’s a small beach that is peaceful and quiet and the water is always a nice temperature for swimming. Galveston is about 30 minutes away and is full of excellent restaurants and beaches.

A day would also have to be spent visiting the Houston Museum of Natural Science and Houston’s China Town. Houston is about 30 minutes away in the other direction!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this Shoutout to the wonderful special education teachers in Augusta County Public Schools in Virginia! Augusta County Public Schools was the first school district I worked for and where I saw some of the best speech therapy and special education I’ve ever seen. The teachers who worked in the life skills room where all the students in their classroom had significant delays and disorders were incredible at helping these children with functional communication. That’s where I first saw play-based therapy in action and how helpful it could be. Since then, I’ve always loved play-based therapy and have also structured my own therapy sessions around play. It made “work” for these kids seem fun and it helped them to use the skills they were learning in everyday, very real situations – like playing!
