We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Gassman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, what matters most to you?
Family provides the foundation for my sense of belonging, love, and support. I would say it is the value that matters the most to me. My family is where I find my greatest source of strength and encouragement. No matter what challenges life brings, my parents and sisters are there to offer unconditional love and guidance, as I am for them. My husband is my best friend and confidant. We are growing together while developing and working towards our personal and family goals. Our children are my greatest source of joy and purpose. Everything I do is guided by my desire to care for and nurture them, so they can be the best versions of themselves as future adults.
When you value family most, you prioritize spending time together, nurturing bonds, and developing meaningful relationships. For me, this extends to close friends I consider my family and even into how I treat clients. It is important to celebrate life’s meaningful events along with the mundane with your family. Capture the moments and hold onto those memories with your loved ones.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Photographers seem to be a dime a dozen here in Houston. It is not easy to set yourself apart from the incredible talent you can find here. I pride myself in doing things a little differently than many. My mission is to support women, especially moms, by taking as much off their plate as possible when it’s time to get photos taken. My full-service photo sessions include choosing your wardrobes for you; providing professional hair and makeup services; bringing the studio to your home, office, or on location for you convenience in addition to creating polished, professional images. I also personally deliver printed photos and install wall art so you don’t have to. My clients would tell you it’s more than a photo session, it’s a photo experience. It’s a lot of work on my part, but it’s worth it to the joy and relief I see in each mother’s face as her life gets just a little bit easier while she enjoys the moments and memories with her little ones.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is a vibrant city with a mix of cultural, historical, and natural attractions. If a friend was visiting me for a week, there are several places I would definitely take them.
I love the Houston Museum of Natural Science. There is something for all ages with permanent exhibits like dinosaurs, gems, live butterflies, and a planetarium. The Museum of Fine Arts is also fabulous. It is one of the largest art museums in the U.S. with so much to see. If you have children, the Children’s Museum has a plethora of interactive exhibits and activities.
Space Center Houston is a must-visit for space enthusiasts or people with children. There you will learn all there is know about NASA’s historic and current missions as well as tour real spacecraft, astronaut training facilities, and even Mission Control.
One of the top-rated zoos in the U.S. is right here in Houston, there is so much to see with new things popping up all the time.
Eating out would certainly be on the list since Houston has one of the most diverse food cultures you could find. BBQ is a must for someone out of state. In no particular order, my favorites are Truth BBQ, Gatlin’s BBQ, The Pit Room, or Pinkerton’s. You can’t go wrong with any of those. Ever had Tex-Mex? If not, you need this genre of food in your life. My favorite is a lesser known restaurant that started in the Cypress area called Soto’s Cantina. With two locations, their food always tastes freshly made with some of the best chicken and beef fajitas I’ve ever had. There are so many more restaurants that are truly amazing. For a smaller but incredibly delicious sushi meal that won’t break the bank, Kawa Sushi in Northwest Houston is the best.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My learning, growth, and evolution in the photography industry and as a business owner can be attributed to so many things. Various mentors, taking risks to try new things, finding people to give valuable feedback or advice, reading business related books, and so much more. One organization I am very thankful to be a part of is Women’s Council of Entrepreneurs (WCE). This group of amazing, knowledgeable, talented, and supportive women has become my tribe. I always leave our connection meetings with my cup filled ready to move forward as a small business owner and supporter of other women owned businesses. If you are a woman looking for a networking group that focuses more on support, WCE is for you.
