We had the good fortune of connecting with Shantell Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shantell, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always had a crafty and entrepreneurial spirit. When my grandmother died and I was helping to clean out her home, I saw so many crafts and handmade items she made. I decided to get back into my own crafting. People saw it and wanted to purchase. I started a business and named my business in honor of her.

What should our readers know about your business?
I was a retail manager for various large retail stores for 15 years. With my grandmother on my mind and my husband by my side, I stepped out on faith to start my own business. I started this business making a few jewelry peices. I later added custom shirts and shoes and other items. Each year I try to either add a new product or upgrade an existing one. I added custom party favors, party and balloon décor and even yard greetings. My family is the key to my drive to be more and more successful. I practice to make things more efficient and to be better at my craft. I like to be challenged to try to customize new things in new ways,

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband has been so supportive of my business through my ups and downs. He has supported me financially, physically, and mentally. He has been my backbone throughout the entire process. My sister from another mother, Michelle, drives me. She pushes me to try new things and offers praise as well as constructive criticism when needed. My daughter, Laila, is my little sidekick. She helps me with projects, set ups, and whatever I need her to do. I am grateful for my clients for all their support and for keeping my business growing from year to year.
