We had the good fortune of connecting with Maegan Willmann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maegan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Well, I’ve been working in the Cypress area for 7 years. I was at the same salon for the past 6.5 years before opening Lonesome Blonde. I was ready for a change and when I started looking for a new salon to move to I realized the selection around here is very limited. I could either make a lateral move to another typical salon, open a suite, or go big and open a salon like no other in Cypress. In order for me to really take my career to the next level, there was only one option. I figured that if I feel this way, there have to be other stylist looking for something different and special as well.
What should our readers know about your business?
Lonesome Blonde is a 4 chair salon offering an elevated approach to salon services. We have 3 chairs available for lease. We are looking for independent hairstylists who specialize in a range of services. We really want stylists who are ready for the next step in their careers, who want to be their own boss but still want to be a part of a team. We’ve also added Microblading to our menu and were excited to help Ashley build her business.
We are only 7 months in, and still working out some of the details but I’m so proud of what we’ve built. Our focus is the client. We want to provide the highest quality services. We want our guests to know that we will always do right by them. There is no other salon like Lonesome Blonde in our area.
We also want to provide a work environment for our stylists that is not demanding or stressful. We want a team that wants to stand out as the best salon team in Houston, that values professionalism, creativity, education, and individuality.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would definitely pal around Tomball for shopping, BBQ at Tejas Chocolate+Barbecue, and I would stop by Craving Kernels to get the dill pickle popcorn. For dinner Coltivare in the heights or Kata Robata for sushi. I would also order hot cookies delivered to our door from Half Baked Cookies.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would shoutout my husband for providing me with the support and help I needed to open a business. Without him, I would never have had the confidence to open a salon. He’s very involved in the business from, payroll to website maintenance to window cleaning!
I would also shoutout Debbie Murdock (owner of Blondes, Brunettes and Redheads in San Antonio, Tx. I worked for her for a short time, but she showed me what great leadership looks like. It was an absolute joy to work in her salon. We were a real team, and that’s what I am striving to build for myself.
Lastly, I would also shoutout the other Cypress small businesses that I think are worth checking out: Bliss Bayou Designs, Half Baked Cookie Company, BridgeLakes Crossfit, Studio A Cypress, Taza Food Style.
