We had the good fortune of connecting with Haley Webster and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Haley, how does your business help the community?
I’m honestly not sure that I currently do. This has bothered me a little as I struggle with the idea that the very purpose behind imagery can paint an unrealistic portrait of things- an inflated reality- and I know that this is harmful. My goal behind my photos is to tell a story as it was really happening and I don’t care so much about the beauty of perfection. I care more about the beauty of the moment. I have been working on service projects personally and using photography as a vehicle for this. I am hoping to continue this and expand as I am able.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston is a fantastic city. We have great music, bars, and restaurants. I, for sure, would take a trip to Galveston and perhaps stop at Gilhooley’s for some raw oysters on the way back. We could head downtown to EADO and check out Miss Carousel and some of the food halls. I would hope there might be some live music at White Oak Music Hall, so after an afternoon stroll by The Dunlavy along the bayou, we might head to The Heights to have some whisky and hushpuppies at 8 Row Flint. In the end, we would also for sure hit up Truth barbque as well as some of Houston’s amazing mexican food restaurants. I would probably close it out with my all time favorite sushi place- MF Sushi in the museum district, and a stroll around Hermann park while also visiting to all the amazing museums we have.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have so many people on this journey who have nudged me along the way. I have to thank my friend and fellow photographer, Kelly Hornberger. We actually grew up together but weren’t really good friends until we ended up in the same business. She is an incredibly talented wedding photographer and has been a wonderful sounding board. We now office together and I can’t even begin to process the number of questions I ask her about things. She always answers and totally honestly.
