We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaquanna Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shaquanna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Nuimage started in 2018 I originally started by doing make up, but what I noticed was women including myself were mainly doing it to cover skin issues don’t get me wrong makeup is a wonderful enhancer but not a solution. I knew then I wanted to be the one to correct the things they were trying to cover.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am most excited about recently opening Nuimage Skin and Body Studio here in Charlotte, NC. I started taking clients in my spare bedroom now I am in a space where I can build a team of make-up artist, lash technicians and massage therapist. I got here by taking it one client at a time I built my clientele by word of mouth. Was it easy absolutely not any times I wanted to throw in the towel but what’s the fun in that? I overcame the many challenges by having an extremely supportive husband that wouldn’t let me give up on my dream. I have learned to not be afraid to ask for help I really didn’t know how much support I had I have an issue with delegating and asking for help, but I am a work in progress.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite places to visit in the city are The Ebony Experience, Goodlife Social House, Romeos Vegan Burgers, Optimist Hall, Camp North End, Puttery and take a stroll in NODA.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am grateful for my daughter Naomi whom I was pregnant with when I started Esthetics school and also my husband Ramon and my mom Cecelia I don’t know how going to school with a newborn and starting a business would have ever been possible without their continued support.
