We had the good fortune of connecting with Shenita Outland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shenita, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always had an artsy/creative side. It’s the perfect contrast to my full-time medical career. Growing up, despite exceling in math and science, I was a dancer, ballerina & pianist at heart. Now that I’m older, I find freedom and my creative outlet in traveling and curating travel experiences for others. It all started off with my own personal travels, then I started blogging about it since I always got so many questions about my vacations. Then I thought “I should really give myself the ability to book these experiences I keep talking about.” And that’s how World Travels, LLC was birthed. If I was going to create a second stream of income and run my own business, I wanted it to be something I was really passionate about so that it wouldn’t feel like another job or more work.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
– I’ve also learned to pace myself. Even though I love it, it’s still possible to experience a burnout. I was really surprised the 1st time that happened. But I’ve learned, although I’m here to service others, I have to honor myself. I may get inundated with requests, but I control the pace. If I need to space things out or decline new business until a certain period of time, I honor that and communicate that to clients.
– I have a strength for operationalizing a work flow but now the focus is on automation. That’s a new and welcomed challenge.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All the other boss women I’m surrounded by particularly the ones that look like me – they were my inspiration but they also keep me motivated and striving for excellence in my craft.
