We had the good fortune of connecting with Silver Olmeda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Silver, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Southeast Houston, Tx, and ever since I was a little girl I loved playing with makeup or anything to do with makeup. I was introduced to makeup by my Mom and Aunt Lily. My Aunt Lily has been doing hair and makeup since she was 19 and I was always so fascinated by what she could do. I started wearing makeup in intermediate and high school, and would get so excited when I was able to start buying my own makeup products. I would always practice hair and makeup looks on my younger sister and the girls on my color guard team whenever I had the chance. After high school, I had the opportunity to go to cosmetology school, which helped me further my education in the beauty field and helped me get all the practice I could. While in cosmetology school I took an eyelash extensions course and immediately fell in love. Once I graduated beauty school, I mainly focused on makeup and eyelash extensions and would do hair every now and then. Practicing every opportunity I would get, I would do my cousins makeup for special occasions and do their lashes when they needed them. Because of all the practice I was able to do, I was given the opportunity to do makeup for weddings, quinceañeras, and many other occasions. If It wasn’t for me being able to practice on people I love I wouldn’t be where I am today, and I’m so thankful for that.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Cosmetology runs in my blood and I’ve always believed since I was little girl that this would be my calling. Not only was I gifted the opportunity to see what it takes to be a successful business owner in the beauty community, I also was given the chance to put in thousands of hours of practice in an art that I love. Hand cramps and sleepless nights are apart of the process, but the rewarding feeling I get knowing my clients are getting results that they love is payment in and of itself. I’ve learned to never give up, strive for greatness, but most importantly, that my clients are leaving 100% satisfied, which is key in any successful business model. My name and my hard work are represented by each person who leaves my chair so I must ensure that I give my all in whatever service I do. It is a privilege to be able to do what I love for a living. Every day that I wake up and am able to service one of my clients is a reiteration that all the hard work I’ve put in has paid off.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As everyone knows, if you come to Texas you HAVE to do BBQ and no one does it better than Truth BBQ! If I want to get my Jamaican cravings satisfied I go to Reggae Hut or Cool Runnings. For Indian, if you don’t go to Agas then you’re missing out! My favorite restaurants to celebrate any occasion would be either Georgia James, Steak 48, Papas Steakhouse, or (for a more budget friendly option) Texas Roadhouse! For a night on the town, Truck Yard is a solid option as well as Wonder bar, but to satisfy those 2 am cravings, Oh My Gogi is an absolute must!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First off I would like to thank my Lord and savior Jesus Christ for blessing me with the opportunity to bring my dreams to reality. I also want to thank my family and friends for always supporting me and letting me practice on them from the beginning of my career. I am so grateful for my parents for putting me through cosmetology school and supporting me no matter what I did and a big shout out to my sister for always being my guinea pig when I learned something new and always trusting the process! I am thankful for anyone that I was able to service, wether it was eyelashes, makeup or even hair, it really means the world to me that they support me. Thank you to anyone that would repost or even like my posts on social media!
