We had the good fortune of connecting with Summer De La Garza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Summer, what’s the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important thing I have learned is to never give up on my passion. Being an entrepreneur and owning your own business isn’t always easy! There are always going to be obstacles along the way. You must give your all when it come to having your own business even through the good and bad times. I can honestly say business has not always been great. There was times I struggled, times when I didn’t have any clients coming in or making any money, times I wanted to just throw in the towel and say “I give up!” It has taken a lot of faith and patience but I am in a way better place today and I have learned so much and to always push as hard as I can to build my business! I am extremely proud of the business I do have and very thankful for my loyal clients this wouldn’t be possible without them !
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of the things I am most proud of is being a nail instructor and sharing my knowledge and sharing my passion! Nails & Art is my life !! It is so amazing to be able to share my talents and watch my students grow their businesses! It has taken me 10 + years to get to where I am today! Lots of money that I invested in not only products but also schooling and additional courses along the way to learn profitable techniques in the industry ! This business isn’t for the weak especially being an entrepreneur its definitely a lot of hard work and dedication! When I was going to school full time to get licensed I was also working as a waitress part time and servicing some of my closets friends and family all while being pregnant. I learned to definitely be a hard worker and dedicated ! One thing that I tell my students or anyone looking to build their brand is INVEST!!!!! In the beauty industry there is so much out there, there is so many products , there is so many nail trends , nail designs etc. You must invest in yourself to learn profitable techniques in this industry! If you’re not investing and learning the techniques your potential clients want serviced , your clients are going to eventually start going else where or finding a nail technician to fulfill their desires and services ! There is money to be made in this industry and its up to you if you want to go out and get it ! Anyone can throw something on nails and make it look cute but if you’re not giving good quality your clients are not going to pay ! Charge what your worth and don’t sell yourself short !
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First things first is food if it was early morning I would say hands down would be The Breakfast Klub chicken and waffles and coffee for sure !! If it was dinner I would have to take her to Eddie Vs for a New York strip with the crab fried rice and the delicious Banana foster butter cake !! omg im making myself hungry as I talk about this lol! Hangout spots I would definitely take her to truck yard to enjoy the night life , live music . Im not one to go out much so I don’t know of many spots but I have been dying to also check out the Marriott hotel with the huge Texas shaped pool! I am ready for coronavirus to beat it because that will definitely be a spot I book a room at just to relax and enjoy corona free ! lol
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
1st thank to the man upstairs ! Without GOD none of this would be possible! I am also very grateful for my clients and the amazing women that come out to support my business by receiving services and to also take my nail courses! They all have made my business what it is today and I am beyond thankful! I definitely owe my partner Jazz Garcia a lot of credit as well. She has not only invested in my business but believed in me. She has stood by my side 100% since day 1 ! She was kind of dragged into my business at the beginning of our relationship since I had been in business for about 7 years already but she definitely helped me learn how to save, learned to Never give up on my hopes and dreams and push to want more for myself and look for better opportunities and continuing my education and not settle for less ! I definitely see my worth not only in myself but my business and my future and now I have bigger dreams of becoming a more successful person !
