We had the good fortune of connecting with Summer Stout and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Summer, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
In terms of my business, I love when a client gives me a theme and lets me have creative freedom. There is a challenge that comes with limited direction, it is almost like solving a puzzle. When I finish a set where I am given creative freedom, I feel so proud to give the cookies to the client or show them to my family. I also have so much joy when a client sends me a video of their 3 year old dancing and eating his robot cookie or when a funeral home worker laughs as I give her a crazy funeral home set. Seeing that a little butter, powdered sugar, flour, and love can make someone smile makes me happy.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I first started my business I was so focused on trying to make it as popular as I could that I forgot why I like making cookies. Running a small business is never easy, you invest so much and usually have to start from scratch. I recently had to step back and think of goals for my business and where I see it in the future. My wish is that Salty Bee Cookie Co. stays a little hidden gem that someone may stumble across on instagram or at an event and be delighted with what they see and taste. It sounds like an easy goal, but what people don’t think about is what is takes to get there. Running a cookie business looks like trying a recipe 100 times to get it just right, adding way too much food coloring to the icing and having to start again, or crying because you dropped the finished cookies you just spent 3 days working on during packaging. All those unfortunate events are worth it because every time I create a new cookie set my skills slightly improve and my little gem of a business gets to shine just a little brighter.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the restaurant Local Table and the coffee shop Land of a Thousand Hills in Cypress. Fever puts on some fun events like candlelight concerts, so if you’re into classical music check that out! Rooftop Cinemas is an awesome experience for movie buffs, definitely try to catch a movie there this fall!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out God, my family, and friends. God has blessed me with a great life and community. My family saves my butt constantly, from baking to delivering to telling me I’m too hard on myself I would not be able to run my company without them. My friends always hype me up and I am forever grateful for the love that they show me and my business. Thank you all!
