Meet Tatiana Hall | Social Justice Advocate through Homeownership and Education

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatiana Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tatiana, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I may be the proudest native Houstonian you’ll ever meet. No matter where I go, I am always repping H-Town! I love every detail of my city’s culture, and it’s been so inspiring to see the impact that my hometown has had on pop culture today. Though, born and raised on the south east side of the city, I mostly attended schools in Missouri City and Fort Bend ISD. Attending schools beyond my neighborhood inadvertently taught me that my zip code does not define me, rather, my actions make me who I am. I am so grateful for my experiences growing up because my upbringing is directly responsible for the way that I see the world today. For starters, I know how to make myself comfortable in any room that I enter. Growing up as I did, I garnered an eclectic mix of street savvy, book smarts, and just an “around-the-wayness” that has made being The Mortgage Link Queen feel so much easier that it actually is. Helping people achieve their dreams of homeownership is no easy task. But surviving the things that I have survived; being supported as I have been supported; and witnessing the greatness of others who come from where I am from has been all of the drive and motivation I need to thrive in this business of helping people.

What should our readers know about your business?
There is a 600 percent wealth gap that currently exists in America. I see this a huge problem that I am dedicated to tackling. On average homeowners have a net worth that is 45 times that of a renter. The greater a person’s net worth, then the greater that person’s access to opportunity – the one thing that many of us need to improve our qualities of life. As a licensed Mortgage Loan Officer in Texas, I’ve established the brand: Mortgage Link Queen to propel my mission to help ONE MILLION families to become homeowners. Increased homeownership in economically disadvantaged communities – that’s my solution to this drastic problem that has disproportionately plagued communities of color for generations. I’m in the business of helping others. Mortgages are the vessels that I use. Mortgage Link Queen exists to educate and assist people in using mortgages to generate and sustain wealth.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We will definitely be visiting “The Museum District,” better known to us Houstonians as THIRD WARD! It’s the epicenter of Black Excellence. On the Almeda strip, you’ll experience great eats, like the infamous Turkey Leg Hut, eclectic shopping boutiques like Melodrama, a staple of beauty like Zayd’s Naturally Natural Hair Studio, a very lit night life scene like Bar 5015. And cultural excursions just around the corner like the Buffalo Soldiers Museum. And of course, I’d be remised if I did not take them by the best barbershop in Texas – Hall-A-Fame Cuts, located at 1250 Texas Parkway, Ste D!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This is the easiest, yet most difficult question to answer. I have received unfathomable support from my husband and children, my family, my friends, former teachers, and even my former students. So, it’s tremendously hard to pin it to just one or even a few. I can say, though, that I owe so much to husband, Treá, who supports every dream that I have. I am able to do all that I do because of his sacrifice and support. He’s been the best life partner ever.

I must also shout out HYPE – Houston’s Youth Program for Enrichment. I was introduced to this reading enrichment program as a young girl when my Granny would enroll me every summer to ensure that I stayed active in something positive. Turns out that HYPE actually ended up being the catalyst for the path that I am on now. I testify all the time on how HYPE changed and saved my life. It’s an organization in which I am still proudly connected. I encourage everyone to check them out. They just may change your life too!
