We had the good fortune of connecting with Malinda Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Malinda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly starting my own business never crossed my mind. I never thought I was capable of doing so. My goal in life was to graduate school and start my career as a coach in basketball or something that involved sports. Helping others had always made me happy. I have always been athletic, growing up playing basketball but I had never really been into weightlifting until I met my boyfriend. Seeing the results and becoming stronger and stronger became super addicting. Also in the process I became a rock climber so that helped me grow both physically and mentally. Many of my friends would come up to me and ask me for help to make them strong and become more physically fit. As more and more people kept asking me thats when it came to thought that maybe I could start my own personal training business. I started to come up with ideas and asked my close friends and family what they thought and they said “DO IT!” Everyone believed in me and that really helped me build my confidence into starting my business and it was the best decision I’ve made. I absolutely love it so much.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Starting off my business I did not want to portray it as just becoming strong. My goal was to be able to help everyone wether its lose weight, building confidence, or mobility. Whatever the goal may be, I want to help them in any way I know. I am proud of reaching my clients goals the smiles it brings to their faces and the confidence they build makes me so happy. I am excited for what the future will bring. I love working with my clients more and more everyday and in the process I learn so much to become better for them. This process was not easy at all. I started off with training my clients in my apartment gym or at parks. Eventually I was able to save and start building my own small gym in my garage. I started off for a while with very few clients and some weeks would only have one, but I knew starting a business was not easy. I made sure to stay positive and keep figuring out ways to get myself more clients. I was determined to not give up. Eventually I started to get more clients because of my amazing friends who got the word out, my clients who talked so good about me, and social media. I learned that some weeks may be great and some may not but don’t ever give up because better always comes out of it. I want everyone to know Im hear to help everyone kids, women, men, and senior citizens. I am willing to give my all to help anyone as much as I can. It is not easy at all to reach many goals and no it will not in a couple weeks it will take a couple months but it will be worth it in the end.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have an obsession with crawfish so if its crawfish season I would take them straight to my favorite place to eat crawfish. My best friend loves seafood so I would take her to Golden seafood another day. There are so many amazing food places it would depend on what she would be in the mood for and I would pick from there. I would also “try” and cook some of those days too. Those quotes are there cause I am the worst cook so I would get my boyfriend to help. My favorite drink is mimosa so I would definitely take her to Cedar Creek they have the best frozen Mimosas and they have crawfish and other yummy food. My favorite thing to do is rock climb so most days we would rock climb at momentum indoor climbing. During the night life I love going to the bars on main street in downtown so I would be there to have some fun dancing and drinking. Shopping is also super fun so I would take her to my favorite shops like REI one of my favorite stores.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shoutout all my friends and family. Without them I would of never done this. Thanks to them encouraging me and giving me the confidence to do it. Not one person told me it was a bad idea or even thought about it. Every person loved the idea. One person who I do want to highlight is my boyfriend Genaro he really pushed me and helped me to start it all. His support was everything.
