Meet Tatyana Licorish

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatyana Licorish and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatyana, how does your business help the community?
In a world where most clinical sectors in healthcare are understaffed, there’s a growing risk of the very community that we vow to protect, be negatively impacted due to the rush that schools and facilities have to get positions filled. This is the reason that For the Love of Surgery (FTLOS) bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world operating room demands. We offer hands-on skills-labs and community support that help surgical professionals build confidence, communicate better, and keep patients safer.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So, I’ve dabbled in quite a few avenues in healthcare. By day, I’m a Clinical Territory Manager for a medical supply company. But, I am also founder of For the Love of Surgery, certified medical coding, surgical technologist, and currently working on further my education a bit more.
To get where I am, I’ve definitely taken more of a “scenic” route lol but I don’t regret it at all. My experiences has given me the ability to build a very dynamic resume and it helps me understand more of the bigger picture when it comes to healthcare overall. That journey alone sets me apart and it has led to me being asked to speak at operating room summits as well as being honored for a 40 under 40 award from Black Health Connect.
None of this was easy. The surgical technologist role is often under-recognized, and building FTLOS while working full-time really shows the passion I have for helping new surgical professionals find their voice and confidence within their skill.
I just want people to know that For the Love of Surgery exists to bridge the gap from classroom to OR with honest, accessible, community-driven education. We focus on skill, safety, and humanity because when the team feels prepared and seen, the patients feel safe.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ooo, I’m such an adventurous girl, so I drag my friends all around the city! Living in Houston, you know food is a must. So definitely stopping at The Breakfast Klub at least once and we’ve got to make sure we indulge in some sushi from Oishii. Museum hopping is always on the list, because why not?! It’s really an underappreciated tourist attraction. Personally, whenever I have friends, or family, in town I always host something at my house. So there will definitely be some sort of game night or something thrown on the grill. To end the week off, we’ll go out with a bang at Skydive Spaceland! I’ve taken a few friends here before and we even purchased another jump before we left. I like to take people to place they’re not likely going to find on social media. It really shows how much dimension Houston has to offer.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Although every educator along my path has been a tremendous part of my story, Black Health Connect really gave me that final push that I needed. The Mission of Black Health Connect is to create and curate a digital and physical hub for Black Healthcare Professionals – and they do just that! There’s something about seeing the endless possibilities of success in a room. The level of inclusivity in all sectors of healthcare is something that I have never seen before.
