We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor The Esty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to create a safe haven for others who suffered from problematic skin concerns to feel heard, protected, valued and nurtured.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Taylor the Esty Skin Studio has become Houston’s Acne Assassin headquarters for treating and clearing acne. We have a beautiful portfolio of before and after pictures illustrating life changing results. Although I’m proud of our successes, never in a million years did I think I’d be a successful “Acne Assassin” known for corrective skin transformations. When I’m asked how did I get into esthetics and if this was a goal of mine, my answer is always “No, this was God’s plan, not mine.”
I enrolled in esthetics school just to learn more about skincare to incorporate into my then business as a makeup artist. I just wanted to offer a moment of relaxation to the brides before their big day. Well, while in school, I began to suffer from acne myself, which I’d never dealt with before. I became very insecure and obsessed with trying to clear my skin. It took me some time but about six months later I was able to find the remedies for clearing acne. I posted my before and after picture and my career grew from there. Acne is a very complex disease that requires lots of research and investments in continuous education. There are endless internal and external factors that have to be considered to achieve clear results. Our clients are always excited about us bringing them back new information we’ve learned to help them achieve their skin goals.

It has not been an easy journey at all. Entrepreneurship requires a level of grit and tenacity that never softens and you have to be of a certain breed to establish and maintain a successful business. I’ve worked harder for Taylor the Esty Skin Studio than I have for any other employer. The days are longer than 8 hours and the weeks consist of more than 40 hours but surprisingly, it still does not feel like work. May 2025 will begin my eighth year as an esthetician and seventh year in business and I wouldn’t change anything. I’ve been introduced to another person within myself that I didn’t know existed. The level of courage I have has been mind blowing at times but electrifying as well. Running this business has taught me there’s nothing in this world that I can’t do! As long as I can visualize it, it’s attainable. Having a strong mindset and belief system will take you far. I believe God wants me to be successful and have everything I’ve dreamt of. Jeremiah 29:11 says. “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

I’m beyond grateful for each person who has allowed us to treat their skin and who has trusted us in their most intimate and sacred moments. We thank you for allowing Taylor the Esty Skin Studio to be apart of your corrective skincare journey. I personally know the insecurities and emotional hardships that problematic skin can cause but I also know your confidence and beauty can be restored with our help. Our existing clients are a testament of that and we are successful because of their commitment and trust.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have to tell you I don’t have much of a busy social life outside of work and family. I won’t be much help for anyone wanting to partake in the Houston entertainment places. I am truly a home body and pretty much go from home to work daily. Unfortunately, I am of no help in this area.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dr. Alissa Dejongh definitely deserves to be celebrated and acknowledged for my success as an esthetician and instructor, Dr. Dejongh was my instructor while in school and truly set the foundation for me to thrive and soar. Since finishing school, she has still been influential in my career. Dr. Dejongh encouraged me to get my license as an esthetics instructor and referred me for the position as as instructor at Houston Community College. She is continuously pouring into the next generation of estheticians and business owners and I can’t be more proud to be connected to her.
