We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiandra Briggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiandra, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think about risks much like that of Thomas Jefferson, “with great risk comes great reward.” I believe that everything we do in order to achieve success will have some type of risk. It’s all about knowing how those risks can affect you before they happen so that you can plan the next move properly. I have taken major risk through out my career including recently moving to Houston in order to elevate my brand and talents.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a 29 year old Scientist and Beauty Brand Owner that specializes in beauty products for hair and skin care while also specializing in braids and protective styles for all ages and hair types. I have been braiding and maintaining healthy hair since the age of 12 years old, when my mother taught me how to braid. I knew then that it was a passion and calling for me and started advertising my craft more amongst friends and family and it kind of blew up from there. It definitely was not an easy journey, after all times change and so do styles. Even on the off days you have to still work on your business, whether it be researching new products, or marketing and branding strategies to bring more clientele.

Lessons that I have learned on the way is that its okay to not have it all figured out, we are all still learning and maneuvering in entrepreneurship. I want the world to know I am looking forward to everything that 2022 has to offer, new clientele, and the launch of all the new products. I also want the world to know that I am committed to my clients, their hair and skin care journeys, and the advancement of the science in the beauty industry for African Americans.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Im kind of new to the city but I’m about experiences so as long as its good vibes, good music, and good food then it pretty lit to me. You to hit up Discovery Green downtown especially on a nice day enjoy a bike ride or a walk downtown. I enjoy Chapman and Kirbys, Seaside Lounge, and The breakfast Klub for brunch. Main event has a bunch of activities and can be cool for date night. For Dinner, I would say Maestros or Thirteen, or Taste Bar. I like the vibes at Prospect Park and Amahle, very chill and the drinks are cool.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To my clients and customers, I would literally be nothing without you. Thanks for your patience, communication, and lastly your loyalty it means the world. Thanks to the first two people who got me into the hair business, my mother Lori Peterkin who taught me how to braid and my godson Wish Jones who let me have my first shop experience helping her shampoo. Last to my boss beauties Laquia Higgins and Ashley Summerville and Cequasia Lomax, thanks for not letting up on me, thank for all the advice, classes (CeCe), and nights listening to my ideas.
