We had the good fortune of connecting with Tierra McManus and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tierra, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
House of J. Lorraine is a Black-Owned beauty supply store. We decided to open our store to be able to provide a level of customer service that is unmatched. We also have first-hand knowledge about many of the products in our store, so we are able to provide direct testimonials to our customers.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
House of J. Lorraine is different from other beauty supply stores because we provide excellent customer service, unlike many stores in the industry. We greet every customer that comes in, assists in any way that we can, & make sure everyone else leaves with a smile. That is one thing that we are most proud of. Opening a beauty supply store required extensive research on the industry, products, vendor accounts, & more. We decided to divide & conquer our research efforts. One important lesson that we have learned thus far is to pace ourselves. Something that we would like the world to know is that we are passionate about sharing our knowledge of healthy hair care. We enjoy all aspects of owning a beauty supply store & look forward to customer interactions.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We’d like to recognize the women that our store is named after. House of J. Lorraine is named after two of our grandmothers. They both played an integral part in the foundation of our healthy hair journey. Because of them, we know the importance of taking care of your hair from root to tip.
