We had the good fortune of connecting with Tonia Griffin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tonia, what do you attribute your success to?
Partnerships with others with a similar mission to Khambrel Foundation or collaborations in providing similar resources has been key to the success of impacting the needs of our community.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a retired Assistant Director of Financial Aid and Veteran Certifying Official; Member of La Marque Parks Board and Vice President, Friends of La Marque Public Library. Serves as Kindness Ambassador, Community Leader and Changemaker. All it takes is one Righteous Act to change a moment, in everything we’ve learned it’s to show others how kind life can truly be, I encourage you to perform kind acts every day to make an impact in this world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The best breakfast, lunch and dinner places to visit on the Mainland is Kelly’s Country Cookin, Mama Francis Soul Kitchen or Big Phil’s Soul & Creole Cafe all of La Marque Texas. Visit our local family friendly Highland Bayou Park in La Marque or the Texas City Dike in Texas City great family fun. You must visit Lago Mar Lagoon in Texas City and never go wrong with shopping at Mainland City Centre, Tanger Outlet and Mainland Crossing Shopping Center providing all of your local shopping needs. Tour historic homes, parks and businesses via the Gateway to the Gulf travel across the Galveston causeway to visit Galveston Island.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It wasn’t easy getting here I wasn’t always a kind person and had a bad attitude. With the support of a very strong role model Betty Hazelbaker, told me after being passed over for job promotions endlessly, “It doesn’t matter how good of a job you do, nobody will want to deal with your attitude. It forced me to take inventory of myself, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and a really cool video from Pike Place Fish Market that set me on a path to kindness. I want the world to know that it is my sincere desire to impact others and to motivate change. Khambrel Foundation collaborates with Hilliary Gramm and Higher Up Texas each year teaching Social Skills and Social Responsibility. Seniors helped with our #MainlandKindnessRocksProject, a community service project creating kind conversations and community rock gardens throughout the Galveston County area. Higher Up Texas mission is to create a core-value based environment that introduces high school students to a broader world view through ideas, experiences, people and a network of support outside of their communities to develop critical thinking skills and create a clear path of career trajectory which will serve them throughout their lives.
