We had the good fortune of connecting with Tressa Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tressa, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Growing up art and creating has always been my first love. As I got into the years of wearing accessories I would often Hhave A vision of what I wanted but could never find exactly “IT”. Fast forward to two years ago I started taking those ideas and thoughts and turning it into what’s now D-iva Girls Accessories.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is very unique as it’s in the form of handcrafted accessories, mostly earrings which most people wouldn’t think of as art because it’s not on a canvas. Doing such creative work requires a limtless imagination and appreciation for your surroundings, ideas, visions, and materials just as creating canvas art. I’m both proud and excited of how I’ve been able to combine my true love of creating art with my professional career as a carpenter into creating something unique and wearable. I never stop envisioning the next great piece of art. Believing in my abilities to create something unique and have people fall in love with it drives me to keep going. Getting here was not without it’s challenges, alot of late nights, early mornings and failed attemps. Staying focus, continuing to educate myself on enterpenuarship, challenging myself to do better go further and getting such positive feedback from my D-iva Girls get me through the challenges. As a Earring Artist as I like to refer to myself you have to understand there’s so many different preferences of styles, colors, sizes etc. I’ve learned in creating these pieces of art you can’t take the one size fits all approach or think every customer style is like yours you have to provide options, after all everyone is your target audience. My brand is just in the beginning stages and there’s so much more to come. I want every one wearing a D-iva Girls Accessories piece to walk into the room and simply Let Your Ears Do The Talking.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely eating and drinking at The Turkey Leg Hut at least once. The food, drinks, and energy is amazing. Catching a Show at Houston Improv is always a thing to do. Definitely headed on a Houston Mural Tour you have to take in the arts. Catching a slow cruise through the city streets on a Brunch and Bike Tour or Night Light Ride through the Museum District, third Ward, Midtown, or Discovery Green is a fun way to hangout and get to know about the city and see all the different places and people that makeup such a multicultural city. East End Backyard is another cool spot to hangout bring the pets if you have one enjoy good food, drinks and vendor shopping on the right night.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Sharrod Jones my husband for almost 24 years have watched me create, listened to all my creative ideas and should I or shouldn’t I’s. He saw the vision when I didn’t and was the first one to encourage me to step out and bring my creativity to the masses.
