We had the good fortune of connecting with Ty Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ty, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
This career is way more than just a source of income but a lifestyle. When being a creative you have the abilities to travel and experience life in such unique ways, in that doing so you can see the world with a set of different senses it can seem at times. When you travel for a recording session with other musicians from across the country to meet up at a studio to make some magic happen it’s an experience that has its own feeling but no one name for. The feeling we all get of being captivated when going to the traveling Van Gogh or Frida Experience at museums connecting with the artists in ways it seems we all feel together no matter where or when we see it. These types of artistic moments in life is why I have decided to make this life long pursuit.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my willingness to never give up and that if i have to roll my sleeves up to do some hard work to get things done I will. Hard work with consistency of a solid output is how I strive to maintain the reputation I have in the Houston Scene especially. Its Hustle Town where life isn’t easy but respect can be earned by being true to your word and making things happen. You have to build a solid foundation where you live in order to branch out once established. These are some lessons I have learned working in the industry at different levels. We cant keep trying to do the same old things though because they are “tradition” but make changes to some of the ways that things are done in order to be original and make a stand out difference through your artistic expression. Acts Of Civil Disobedience are ways in which you can make a stand for yourself with all you believe in expressive forms. Thats why I named my company that. It’s about me taking a stand with others I call friends who have done the same things individually but with us doing them together collaborating as well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my peeps come to HTOWN trust and believe I definitely HOLD IT DOWN for the city! Just had a friend Black Dave from the NoJumper Podcast come in from New York City and me and Orylan we hit up the Lee and Joe Jamail skatepark, went and got daiquiris and some food at Voodoo Queen over in EADO. That night I help do work with Live Impact Events putting on shows here where we had a Emo Night Show over at Main Street Tap & Grill with live music and djing plus local vendor booths from Houston owned businesses. It was a great networking and fun time where connections and memories made so that the future might be open to more happening again here in Houston.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
With my company Acts Of Civil Disobedience I like to consider myself a jack of all tradesman. From artist management, executive producing music, video editing, photography, social media marketing, event bookings, to doing photography for social media and epks I do a bit of all of it under Acts Of Civil Disobedience. Artists i manage ALXNDR I am executive producing the whole EP we are coming out with in 2022 I’m really excited about! I’m doing a photo shoot for the most gorgeous goth goddess Orylan99 that she is a absolute gem anyone would be privileged to do work with! A great friend and artist I do a lot of work with from music producing to photography and helping out with collaborating by shooting music videos with Rxbyn helped shoot the first music video for ALXNDR featuring Yung Cid from the U.K. with production and in the music video playing guitar another great artist friend Hxxligan is in there as well. All of them mentioned have amazing music coming out 2022! I do all kinds of work with them and many other artists and models all over the Houston area as well as across America and the U.K. In Houston where I live I also have great artists and model friends I do work with that I could mention for days so I recommend please checking them all out I post all over my social media platforms. I work with some really special and talented people and we all appreciate any support so we can keep making art work and evolving as creative people .
