We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Sutton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, how do you think about risk?
5 years ago I took a leap of faith…..didn’t consider this being a risk because I could always go back to Detroit and do the same stuff I was already doing……this leap of faith is the best decision I e ever made! I left Detroit with a suitcase and $500 to my name……I only knew one person in Houston! My friend of over 20 years opened his home to me for this leap even though he was married at the time and most men would have an issue with making a decision as such……I met my wife a couple weeks after arriving in Houston and she’s been an awesome edition to my life…..I’ve ended up working my way into being a decently know DJ…..met some awesome people….DJ’n for Astros playoff games and World Series to producing a beat on the monumental album Soundtrack To The Revolution…….Houston saved my life! I really believe the best people in the world live in Houston!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a DJ allows me to dig deep into creating something dope musically with 2 turntables and a mixer…..what sets me apart from some of the others is I know me being creative is for the people! That’s what drives me! I’m most proud of being part of the album Soundtrack To The Revolution….I produced the track B*tch We Still Here…..simply put….That’s a monumental album! Actually I relocated to Houston from Detroit…..I took a leap of faith 5 years ago……hasn’t been easy and it’s been great working through it! Challenges ain’t nothing but work! You work through the challenges….that’s how I survive! Along the way I’ve learned all people are not the same……trust your gut…..being yourself is very important and staying true to yourself! And you have to believe in you! As for me and my brand and my story……I believe in it and so should you! It’s for the people! I do this for hip hop!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I’m the resident DJ at Little Woodrows EaDo…..so I would definitely have them swing by……You gotta get a Turkey Leg from Turkey Leg Hut of course……Bar 5015 was me and my wife first night out….that spot is dope and has a special place in my heart lol! The Flat is dope for house music and reggae…..I’ve lived on Washington ave in the Heights as well…..that’s like bar central! Strip clubs I got DJ homies at Bucks Wild….the food is damn good and Velvet lounge for hood vibes! Houston has been absolutely awesome for me and saved my life!
